I disagree. I love Tricky as much as anyone and want to keep him, but the media frenzy about him and how much he could earn is completely over the top vs. what he's done on the field over a short time.
Media are always over the top. The $900k-950k is stretching it, but $750k-$800k is about right.

I agree.

Love Trindall and really want us to keep him, but talk of $850k is more due to a shortage of halves than anything. He definitely has the potential to be that player and has shown signs of it, particularly this season where he was immense, but ideally you would like to see at least one more full season of him playing like that before we give him that kind of money.

I think $700k and an upgrade for this coming season is fair, then you just hope a bit of loyalty comes into it, but it would be hard to begrudge him moving if he can get $850k+ a season

Incredible years?

I get he had a great 1st year, but incredible? Pretty much won Dally M cause Cleary was ineligible.

There's no denying that Hynes is quality, but the club re-signed him on a $1 mil a season.
He still had to be good enough to win it. Cleary may have won it this year too if he was available. Nicho was 1 or 2 points off in 2023 too.

2022 - 6 tries, 83 goals (74%), 4 field goals, 21 forced dropouts, 21 try assists, 117 run metres, 92.6% tackles, 36 offloads, 6 linebreaks, 29 linebreak assists
2023 - 5 tries, 83 goals (79%), 1 field goal, 10 forced dropouts, 28 try assists, 148 run metres, 91.28% tackles, 28 offloads, 7 linebreaks, 34 linebreak assists

Those years are pretty comparable for mine, I thought he was fantastic in both and justified the upgrade. He also hit the ground running this year and was great till origin. At the time he re-signed, there wasn't really anyone thinking it was a bad deal.

Sio Siua Taukeiaho set to sign with Manly for next season.

Matt Lodge is desperate to stay in the nrl. Someone will pick him up and I reckon it will be St Merge.

Also the question of what his off-field value is
Sure some people won't value that at all, but that doesn't mean the club doesn't.

Good press, good visibility, attractive to corporate dollars - is he worth an extra 100k a season if he brings in an extra 10x that to a historically cash tight club?

Doesn't help when the media bash the bloke every single week.

Heard this was a train and trial deal only
So they could cancel it at any time or another club could easily come over the top of them and make a better off

Yes and no - he's still got a Sharks jersey on in most of that
Then he's on the Kayo add during every game

Probably got as much if not more off-field airtime as anyone in the NRL for purely non-off-field controversies.
(not sure how to write that last bit clearly, hope it makes sense... most non-indiscretion airtime...)

I remember people saying SJ was the greatest signing for us of all time because he had a lot of social media followers.

I remember not caring about that at the time
Nicho's value to us is something the club internally has a demonstrated measure on though, so I'm comfortable being hypocritical there.
Especially as the 6/7 argument aside he isn't also reshuffling our spine (Moylan to FB was always a big issue I had with SJ signing)

yeah that's what is being written.
I know the Dragons went after him as did the bulldogs however apparently his manager was asking for 550k-600k a season. Both clubs ended discussions there.
Manly might be his only option now who knows.

I thought it was a bad deal and way too over the top in terms of length and price at the time.

His inability to play good in big games showed back then
