if sharks fans had the power would you punt Blake Ferguson now or let him see out 2010 with us?

fellow fans, do i need to point out to you he is at best a talented raw young 1st grader at present, why should the sharks w/ over half a dozen of games left this yr to play continue to nuture him for some other club in 2011, lets cut our losses now & bring in a young guy who is busting for an opportunity or give Covell his spot, he has earnt the right to finish in 1st grade w/ us if he is not w/ us next year!

We'd be better off punting him now.

It's time to piss him off now and move on.

He has basically said he won't be here next season so give his place to someone who will be here next season and beyond.

It's time to look to the future.

He is not in our club's future so it's time to give his place to somebody like an Isaac Gordon when he's fit or give Ricky Leutele a run in first grade.

I don't even see the question being asked a requirement, he should go and take Ricky with him.

as soon as he bought the club into disrepute by bagging them he should have been dropped to NSW Cup, then IF he annouces a signing dropped straight to park footy.

Cant believe he would walk away from a 1st grade spot here that is basicaly guaranteed to him due to lack of depth and be linked to Smithy's revolving door at the roosters where no one is guaranteed a starting spot - just doesnt make sense?

after what he said only ( not because he is signing elsewhere) and I don't think his form has been great anyway ,lots of half hearted running across field

Every year I pay my country membership to further enhance the experience of barracking for the Sharks. To see this sc*mbag on the field in the same jersey that I paid my hard earned cash for drives me insane. This a**ehole has ruined my member's jersey, his name is a few lines above mine & I've NEARLY stopped wearing it!
Every time this piece of s*** is picked is a kick in the guts to me, all other Sharks fans & the loyal players & staff!
Get rid of him & the ****wit that keeps picking him!

man, what did he say ? I missed it. was asleep under a rock.

I say kick him out if he bagged the club. Shows how desperate the club is to get some wins and attract more sponsors?

He didn't bag the Club per se, but he did say some immature and misguided stuff:

Ferguson following Stuart out of Sharks
JAMIE PANDARAM
July 3, 2010

Cronulla's talented youngster says it is time to move on, writes Jamie Pandaram.

Boom rookie Blake Ferguson is quitting Cronulla because of the club's weaknesses on and off the field, and has activated a clause in his contract that should coach Ricky Stuart leave, he too could walk. Ferguson no longer believes the Sharks can win a premiership and after Stuart announced he would resign at the end of the season, the winger decided his future lay elsewhere.

The 20-year-old will play out the remainder of the season with Cronulla before joining another NRL side, and his management is now seeking interest from rival teams.

Stuart was instrumental in Ferguson's development, but aside from the coaching shake-up the club's uneasy financial position is another factor in his decision, along with his desire to play in the centres.

''I want to win a premiership, and also with the things going on in the club, the uncertainty, I just want to be in a stable place where I can concentrate on winning a title, that is what is in my heart,'' Ferguson told the Herald. ''It is nothing personal, I do have an emotional attachment to the club. I just want to win.''

The move by Ferguson has caused a massive stir at the Sharks, with incoming coach Shane Flanagan storming out of a meeting with the player after being told his intentions this week.

Ferguson is viewed as one of the brightest prospects in the game, just pipped by Jamal Idris as the 2009 Dally M rookie of the year. He also turned heads in the Indigenous All Stars game when he ran down Israel Folau, and was the key to Cronulla breaking a 13-game losing streak earlier this year with two brilliant individual tries against Parramatta in the 11-0 victory.

Cronulla - who recently fought off bankruptcy - do not want to lose one of their most exciting players particularly with sponsors hard to come by, a record of just five wins this season, and the worst attack in the league, but Ferguson rejected the idea he was abandoning the club that gave him a start.

''If it wasn't for Ricky Stuart I wouldn't be here, he saw me at my first trial and said he wanted to be a part of my development and he has helped me through all the grades,'' Ferguson said. ''Now he's going. I have thought about this long and hard, it wasn't a snap decision. I just want to open a new chapter in my career, continue my growth and play representative football. I thought I put myself in the best position this year, but it's hard from the club perspective because we're not travelling that well on the field.

''I will stay until the end of the year, I will do my job the best I can, do what I love and that is scoring tries.''

Ferguson has been frustrated on the wing, despite scoring 13 tries since his debut in round one last year. ''I want to use my promise at centre, that hasn't been touched,'' Ferguson said. ''I've got a creative side, I'm not just a finisher, so I'm looking to do that at my next club.''

Ferguson signed a contract extension with the Sharks last year that was to keep him in the Shire until the end of 2012, but he inserted the Stuart clause because of a series of problems the club experienced on and off the field.

Ferguson's manager and uncle is the former NRL star-turned-boxer Solomon Haumono, who praised the youngster for his bold move. Haumono is married to Ferguson's aunty Margaret, and the pair runs a sports management and mentoring company.

''As his family and his managers we stand behind him, we want him to develop and we've got his best interests at heart,'' Haumono said. ''We have moved through this process professionally, we've done everything by the book, and nothing about this is personal.

''Cronulla needed to call upon youngsters last year and Blake stood tall, nobody could question his effort, he has shown how strong a kid he is. I am proud because throughout this Blake has acted in a manner beyond his years.''

I guess it is not just what he has said but the implication of what he has said.

In short, it just comes across as something like "I'm heading off to be with a winning team because you Sharks losers aren't going to amount to anything and I'm better off without you... but... yeah... nothing personal"

Now, if that is what I thought alone, then I could say that it was just my interpretation of things based on my own emotional perspective.

However, my conversations with many people - some of whom are his team mates - leads me to believe that there is well and truly an attitude of "Well, fcuk you... who the hell do you think you are?" directed towards Blake.

Now I've heard all sorts of arguments and excuses being made about him being young, being indigenous and being lead by nefarious characters, etc., etc., and not one bit of that has washed with me.

It is completely ridiculous to be at one moment awarding him (and him accepting) huge riches and plaudits for his skills, abilities and professionalism and then to turn around afterwards and patronise him and manufacture excuses based on his naivety and gullibility.

The way I see it is that he has been given a very smooth ride and inordinate support and has also been afforded a paycheck that many of us could only dream of collecting.

With fame comes privileges and responsibilities... I suspect what makes most of us feel indignant is that Blake seems to want all the privileges in life without the associated maturity, responsibility and obligation.

Being patronising towards him or trying to find excuses for his behaviour does not do him any favours at all... in fact, all that will ever do is compound the problem.

It's not worth anyone's while for me to address the numerous points you make here, fitz. I agree with a lot of them, partly agree with some, and oppose others.

I'll add these though:

  • Judges and Magistrates Australia wide are afforded wide latitude in their sentencing of convicted young males above the age of 18 for a wide variety of crimes. It does not take an astute person to understand why this sentencing latitude exists.
  • Jelena Dokić.
  • Black White and Blue Glasses are very hard to take off... Even for those who intellectually understand that they can cloud your vision!
I stand by my comments made not long after this sad story broke:

Sorry to be the heartless voice of reason and optimism here, but you people are leveling your distaste at a kid... A kid who is highly unlikely to have preempted this:

Your distaste would be better directed at the person/s who inserted such a clause, and the senior Sharks official/s who signed off on it!

The BELIEVE campaign has the potential to engage players in to stating ''I want to win a premiership with the Sharks".

The Club could also take this opportunity to, in future negotiations, sign players to the Club, not the coach .

:fergo:

Blake Ferguson is part of a multi-faceted and misled consortium that does not BELIEVE in the Sharks.

... So much energy is wasted in spin polarization.

Blake Ferguson is a signed player to Our Club. Each word uttered or written about him is an inflection on Our Club.

Our Club signed the same contracts as did Blake. Blake was under 18 when he signed his initial contract with the Sharks... Does anyone know who the adult was that made Blake's signature legal?

Go figure without the aid of of media excerpts like these:

“Solomon has had a big influence on my career. He has been in my ear constantly telling me to stay clean and keep out of trouble. He has been a good role model for me. He’s also taught me a lot about defence.’’

And for Haumono, Ferguson's rapid entry into the NRL was a timely wake-up call. "I've spent the last decade watching him grow and where he's come from, it's a tribute to himself,'' Haumono said.

"Seeing what Blake has done, where he's come from, that inspires you as well. You've been through what you've been through and you want to be a leader for the younger generation. It gives you that extra push and drive. He's done that for me now."

I see it everywhere in life... People gung ho at attacking the symptoms, but showing little care for the cause!
