Got done by the Chooks 26-14

A lot of tries from kicks. Roosters got the rub of the green with a couple of tries that shouldn’t have counted and a bizarre sin-binning of Dykes, but the game was there for the taking at 16-14 and ball security let them down.

Very windy game so tough for outside backs. Passes longer than a couple of metres were getting blown around.

Some observations across the 17...

- Dykes was safe, and good on exit sets - but invisible on good ball sets
- Stonestreet’s work on exit sets was great. I like him. Very good ptb’s
- Centres and the other winger were not factors
- I don’t mind Fuz. Not fancy, but his passing is spot on and he plays eyes up
- RR as advertised. Took the line on. Good kicking game. Defended well when he needed to but was rarely tested.
- Finau was ok but not a stand out. Solid.
- Wilson’s service is top notch and so is his defence, but he’s prone to a bonehead play occasionally
- Sikei ... I’m not a fan. Played big minutes though.
- Hardy... solid most of the game but a couple of lazy misses
- Boothroyd... decent. Not a stand out - but can’t fault him. HB will love him.
- Hosking - fantastic defender. Plays well above his weight. Was probably best on ground until he had to go off with a hia. Runs good lines but is small. Would like to see if he has a passing game.

Bench was ok. Burke had a poor miss on the edge. Seemed more comfortable after he moved to the middle.

Agree with most of this. Though I did like the look of Samrani at 3, seems like a body body, fast, runs hard.

Dykes - yeah was basically non existent in attack
Finau I liked, one to watch progress.
Wilson looked good at 9 but then also made some shocking errors at really bad times. Service was crisp and fast.
Hosking I liked, made some good runs too.
Rivett looks good. Good defender, moves well and nice boot.

Agree with your assessment of the centre, Samrani. Looked solid. Wilson defended well but some really poor errors and dropped his head. Rivett looks like a talent. I didn't like some of his defensive efforts. Tended to grab or go for intercepts. Hosting at 13 is a goer.

Jackson Lenzo and Kenny Saad added to the extended bench this week. Saad is a prop who was in the HM's in 2019.

Got done 40-16 by the Dragons. Dykes with a hat-trick

They were 1-16 with Levi swapped onto the bench for Burke.

Illawarra it was, Dragons beat the Thunderbolts (unfortunately)

Yeah - sorry. Steelers. I actually posted the Flegg score in this thread (v Dragons) by mistake and then fixed the score but not the team.

Most of the SG Ball Games this week are postponed (wet weather). The only game being played is the Thunderbolts v Panthers in Melbourne.

They are going to play these games on the weekend of 10-11 April, which was supposed to be the first week of the finals. The whole finals series will be pushed back by a week, so the GF will now (probably) be on Sunday 2 May.

Didn't catch any of the game. Seemed like the usual suspects played well. Rivett kicked at 100%

Anyone got any commentary on the game ?

I only watched the first half...

- Starting props were making big metres
- Magpies played Samrani like he had spiders on him. Seems like nearly every time he got the ball he made good metres and/or scored
- Stonestreet had some great work coming out of their own end
- Sam Healey started at hooker and Wilson came off the bench. Healey is a skinny kid but his defensive technique is fantastic
- Dykes doesn't create much with his hands but he is a dangerous ball runner

Might watch the second half this week and give a bit more feedback

Ended up watching the game, albeit skimmed through.

Finau was very good. Going to be one to watch.
Samrani also looks good.
Rivett - excellent goal kicker, got a big boot on him. Looking forward to seeing him develop
Stonestreet I hadn't seen much of before but he also looks good, tall and very fast.
Dykes as you mentioned more of a ball running full back but he looks real good.

Thanks TS, looks good!

When do you realistically think these guys can play NRL? 2022 or 2023?

From an age perspective 2022 would make them similar ages to Xerri and Ronaldo when they debuted. Give or Take. We know how fast they both made the jump, so not impossible some might make the jump next year but I think 2023 is more realistic. That's if they're good enough mind you.

I expect they'll make the jump to Flegg this year, in about 6 weeks, and depending how that goes will determine what they do next year.

And Finau being a prop might take longer than the others.

SG Ball Team won 28-18 vs Penrith.

Pushes them in to 8th, with the final round next week to be played against 7th placed Parra. Win and they’re in.

There will be no national schoolboys carnivals this year (15’s or 18’s).

The Australian Schoolboys team for 18’s only will still be selected based on the selectors watching each of the separate state carnivals.

The Sharks players born in 2003 will be eligible, including Wilson, Hardy and Abbu-Arrage who were all in the Australian u15’s schoolboys in 2018.
