Whilst many of their teammates are enjoying lighter training schedules Paul Gallen and Luke Douglas are pushing themselves further with both players picked in the Australian Four Nations train on squad.

Sharks coach Ricky Stuart believes Gallen if picked will bring much needed experience to the Kangaroos squad.

“If picked to represent the Kangaroos his leadership and experience is invaluable,” Stuart said. “Although Paul hasn’t played much football during the season he is fresh and training very well.”

Also looking for selection in the final squad is Sharks prop Luke Douglas. Stuart believes Douglas is not far away from his representative debut.

“Luke is ready for the next step,” Stuart said. “He is fighting for a spot in that front row combination, if he is not picked in this years squad he will be there in years to come.”

Gallen and Douglas will assemble with the rest of the squad on Wednesday for a training session at the Sydney Football Stadium. The final squad to tour England and France during October and November will be named following the NRL Grand Final.

Agreed, I know it's good recognition for the boys and, God knows they deserve it, but I'd be pretty happy not to see another Sharks player in any representative jersey for at least a year!

Rose takes place in PM XIII for PNG clash

SEA Eagles forward George Rose has been called into the ARL Prime Minister's XIII team to take on Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on September 27.

Rose will take his place on the interchange bench, with Newcastle veteran Adam MacDougall moving to the wing to replace South Sydney's Nathan Merritt, who has been ruled out with a hand injury.

Prime Minister's XIII: Josh Dugan (Canberra), Adam MacDougall (Newcastle), Michael Jennings (Penrith), Joel Monaghan (Canberra), David Williams (Manly), Terry Campese (Canberra), Johnathan Thurston (North Queensland), Petero Civoniceva (Penrith, c), Robbie Farah (Wests Tigers), Keith Galloway (Wests Tigers), Trent Waterhouse (Penrith), Luke O'Donnell (North Queensland), Paul Gallen (Cronulla). Interchange: Luke Lewis (Penrith), Dave Shillington (Canberra), Nate Myles (Roosters), Tom Learoyd-Lahrs (Canberra), George Rose (Manly)

Can somebody please explain to me how George Rose could possibly be considered a better player than Luke Douglas?

Barrett called into Four Nations Train on Squad

Sharks captain Trent Barrett has been called into the Kangaroos train on squad for the forthcoming Four Nations series

Barrett called into Four Nations Train on Squad
September 28, 2009

Trent Barrett has been called into the Kangaroos train on squad despite not having played since July when he sustained a cheekbone and eye socket fracture in the Sharks round 20 match with the Melbourne Storm.

Barrett received the call up following the Sharks final ball work session before the extended off-season break.

Whilst being surprised at the late call up Barrett is feeling good with the injury now healed and after the extended break is really happy to be considered for selection in the end of season tour.

“ I am really happy to be considered. I am a little bit surprised but if picked would love to go on the tour,” Barrett said.

There are doubts over the fitness of Australian captain Darren Lockyer following the Broncos loss to the Storm on Saturday night.

“We will just have to wait and see what happens with Locky’s injury,” Barrett said.

If picked to tour Barrett would be playing for the Kangaroos for the first time in four years and would cap off an amazing season which saw him represent the Blues in Origin football.

Barrett will train with Sharks teammates Paul Gallen and Luke Douglas on Wednesday at the Sydney Football Stadium. The final squad to tour England and France in the Four Nations will be picked next week.

Geez their desperate if they’re going for Barrett? Surely there is a severe lack of talent in the halves area?

BARRETT ADDED TO AUSTRALIA SQUAD
28-Sep-2009

Former Wigan stand-off Trent Barrett has been called into Australia's train-on squad for the Gillette Four Nations despite not having played for two months.

Barrett, who sustained a cheekbone and eye socket fracture playing for Cronulla Sharks in July, received the call-up amid doubts over the fitness of Australia captain Darren Lockyer.

"I am really happy to be considered," said Barrett, who returned to Australia last October after completing two seasons in Super League with the Warriors.

"I am a little bit surprised but, if picked, would love to go on the tour. We will just have to wait and see what happens with Locky's injury."

It is four years since the former St George Illawarra captain last played for the Kangaroos but he made his return to State of Origin this year with New South Wales.

The selectors will name their squad after Sunday's Grand Final between Melbourne and Parramatta.

I hope Barrett plays.

Yeah yeah I'd be a bit worried he'd get an injury but to be honest if we're that precious about him how do we expect to get anywhere with him?

I'd rather he go and be a champion and come into the new season on the back of leading the best team in the world to victory.

If Gallen and Dougie end up playing even better. Three internationals carving it up.

Congrats to Gal, but what does Dougie have to do to get a green and gold jersey? I wouldn't have any of the frontrowers picked ahead of him, not even Petero.
