He was slammed for sparking a melee against the Kiwi’s last weekend, but Australian coach Tim Sheens has thrown his support behind Cronulla enforcer Paul Gallen, naming him in the VB Kangaroos 19-man side to take on England this Saturday.
Sheens has reacted to his side’s 20-20 draw with New Zealand, elevating Gallen into the starting pack alongside Manly’s Anthony Watmough, whilst Parramatta workhorse Nathan Hindmarsh will make his representative return.
In fear he could cost the Aussies the Four Nations Tournament, fans called for Gallen's sacking after his swinging arm and facial rub on hooker Isaac Luke sparked a brawl involving virtually every player.
However, Gallen was one of the Kangaroos best on-field, coming off the bench to make a mountain of tackles, hit-ups and offloads and has been rewarded.
The other major talking point is the return of Hindmarsh, who has been snubbed for NSW and Australian sides for the past two seasons.
Hindmarsh was convinced he had already played is last game for the green and gold but the opportunity to return will see him approach the Test as if it’s his last.
"I will be approaching it like that,'' Hindmarsh said.
"Just with what's happened with the changes for this Test. You don't know what's going to happen in the next Test. And we're in a bit of a ****ty position already. If we don't beat the Poms on the weekend, we're screwed.''
Hooker Robbie Farah, prop David Shillington and back-rower Luke Lewis are all poised to make their Australia debuts against the Poms. Kurt Gidley and Trent Waterhouse have also been included on the list of possible replacements, but are expected to be left out of the final 17.
Forwards Ryan Hoffman and Sam Thaiday were not chosen.
England started their Four Nations campaign with a comfortable 38-12 win over France and a second straight win would clinch them a place in the final at Elland Road on November 7.
