One of the earlier articles also says that Flegg's schedule is similar to the NRL team - so they don't play trials until Feb.

Two weeks out from round one, the Sharks junior representative teams will have their third and final trial matches on Saturday.

If this kid sticks with League he’ll be something special. His brother was just as good but gave up footy to focus on another career after finishing year 12

Why didn't the Sharks hold on to him then? Asking for a friend.
