Robbos try break assists tell a story being the lowest of all halfs but has the best record in regards to individual tries and linebreaks, not something we expected from him. Least errors as well.

Yeah it's a bit harder to find stats back that far. Noddy would have been a good bench mark too.

Dammit, just realised I missed out try assists!

Todd Carney0.64
Trent Barrett0.44
Albert Kelly0.33
Chad Townsend0.54
Jeff Robson0.33
Scott Porter0.64
Tim Smith0.26

Surprised to see Barrett faired so poorly.

No surprise about Carney though. Good thread.

Shows that we should persevere with Chad and pair him up with Carney for the 2013 season.

To be fair to him, only Carney and Barrett have significant line break assists compared to the rest. That'd be putting centres away you'd imagine.

As for average tries, it's surprising that Carney and Barrett are the losers there.

And yeah Robson's linebreaks are surprising. I'd wager 90% of them are from 15 metres out and close to the ruck.

Yeah I got that data and made the thread to hopefully get a somewhat more technical discussion going about our halves options.

Looking at the strengths, it's clear that Chad is the best kicker and clear second best try assist. Those try assists come off kicks mostly as well, and he isn't shabby for individual tries, and is surprisingly the best defensive half out of all 6!

Robson's strengths would work very well as an impact hooker. Line breaks closer to the ruck and close to the try line (this isn't a stat, just an opinion from memory) and repeat sets through grubbers are things I like in a hooker.

Thanks snow.

If it wasn't obvious, there's conditional formatting on that. Dark green means best at a stat that's a good stat. Dark red means best at a stat that's a poor stat.

So it's not a good thing to have white on a green row, but is good to have white on a red row.

Timmy Smith with the least amount of missed tackles per game eh?

Would love see Graham, Porter and Green on this.

There are also some misleading stats like "metres per kick". It hurts your average a bit if every second kick is a grubber to the in goal or a bomb.

Robbo has a good head on him. He would do well backing up De Gois, coming up with 10-15 left in the half and picking his spots to dart out of dummy half with. Something that I've been a little disapointed with in regard to De Gois. In his first stint with us he was an assasian coming out of dummy half. Hasn't shown that kind of form consistently this year. No complaints though, he's more than serviceable.

With Chad/Carney in the halves our long kicking game would be solid and both posses a good pressure building grubber to force repeat sets. Chad's cross field kicking for wingers would be a welcome addition week in week out as well.

It really make too much sense for it to not happen.

I was heaps excited when we signed him.
Surely some of his stats would rate?

Yeah fair enough, but the stats don't show much between them anyway so it doesn't matter. They're all around the 30. It's a shame there isn't stats for finding grass etc.

Yeah that seems to be his only obvious weakness, not a bad halves partner to make up for that though.

Yeah for sure.

I'm still a bit amazed at his defensive stats. Highest work rate AND highest efficiency of our current three half options, and most of Chad's stats would have been while we were losing so it makes it even more impressive and I think finally ends the myth that he's a weaker defender than Robson.

Yeah really impressive due to him being so young, most young halves are a liability and also that robson is perceived to be one of the best defensive 7's in the game.
