I knew this would come up.
The thing with that song is that it is joyous, rather than hand on the heart type stuff.
Also, it's old. So, you just let it go.
Everything old had a start somewhere.
I must admit if I've had a few and am good spirits I'm just as likely to have a sing-a-long and encourage others to do the same.
Anyone who as ever seen me on The Bus Of Dreams after a win would know that.
Has to be said, there is one "old" and "organic" tradition that I'd love to see us rid ourselves of - being lovable losers with zero premierships.

Wow! Lot's of misinformation about the whole "anthem" thing. Allow me to clarify.
The claim this was "contrived" by the Club is a lie. The membership council discussed the fact that market surveys conducted by the Club said a large majority of people who attended games wanted more crowd involvement.
It was suggested that many of the chants done by the CSSC could be "spread around". There was also a suggestion that "Up, Up" could be sung before games. This was immediately shot down.
The question was asked was there another song that could be sung pre-game (not as a run-out song). This was supported.
The song itself is completely fan generated (or organic as some call it) - by me!
I wrote the song last year whilst thinking about a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary. I was considering using it as a soundtrack for a YouTube tribute video. Hadn't though much more about it.
I had written the chorus and a few verses, here's the first verse,
"We were born in Cronulla
By the beaches of Bate Bay
Since Nineteen Sixty Seven
The game of Rugby League we've played.
At the heart of The Shire
In Black, White and Blue we stand.
Together, we are proud to be Cronulla Sutherland"
The other verses go on to name legendary players etc. It's a work in progress.
After the finals win against Souths last year, we were travelling back on the CSSC bus, celebrating the win. "Up, Up" was sung many times...then people asked what else we could sing. I suggested "We Are Sharks" sheepishly and sung it for the bus.
To my surprise, it went ballistic. It got sung at least half a dozen times and numerous people told me we should sing it in The Cage. Which is all I intended to do with it.
When the suggestion went around the Members Council of coming up with a song people could sing, I threw it in the mix.
On Sunday before ther trial, we had about 80 fans who had voulnteered their time (including me and some CSSC & Shark Tank guys) to help the Club film some promo stuff. We taught them some CSSC chants and then the song. Once again, it was well received and was sung a number of times.
A number of people on the day said how much they enjoyed it.
Ultimately, that's the only reason I wrote it; in the hope people would enjoy it. If it takes off or not will be completely up to our fans. The Club are NOT doing anything to officially push it.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun for Sharks fans to have a "pre-game" song for the crowd to sing. Much like the Wallabies crowd sing "Waltzing Matilda" - which was contrived and forced on everyone by the ARU...

Good iron, sound like alot of effort and time has been put into this idea.
I just dont know why "we as sharks fans" need to sing a song before a game, different if its the Australian Anthem,
I know they are trying to build a atmosphere, but most are digging into a pie , enjoying a cup VB beer reading the big league

Mate, the effort is there, and good on for that. Having a stand alone song to be sung before players come out & have the entire crowd sing it, will be a tough tough ask. It is however good of the club to kind of get on board of this.
Originally, years ago, it was a small idea of the slow "Sharrkkiees, Shaaarrkiees" chant from the CSSC would of been a great concept to get the entire 11,000 + fans at the ground to have that echo about before the sharks took the field, wouldn't need a song, that alone should have the players excited / believe in the support.
I like the ideas, but prior to the game it's hard enough for the MC to even get some cheers & claps from the crowd.

Mate, I completely agree, but at the same time, let's all give it a shot and see how it goes - I remember the first time we we did "Paul Gallen's on Fire" or "There's only ONE Paul Gallen" .... give it a dig, if it it takes off... effing brilliant, if it doesn't.... think again.
