I can say for a fact both the developer and builder tried to convince Sharks way back at the start to demolish club as there were so many unknowns.
It was a gamble which unfortunately didn't pay off.

Not really. Its not much different to most other large developments like this over the last 4 years. The main issue here is the delay to the other buildings during covid created delays to our building. It all goes hand in hand and none of it is due to poor planning

Which option would have cost more? Knocking it down would have meant a new grandstand, also something they dont have the money for.

Exactly and remember this decision was made before COVID
So refurb would have taken less time and meant we were back home quicker.
Hindsight’s a wonderful thing but to suggest the more expensive longer project to fully knockdown was the best option with the information they had is laughable.
The biggest problem imo is that they at some point chose to prioritise the shopping complex over the leagues club and wish they did some work in parallel where possible to speed things up. If possible

Exactly, and with the way costs have blown out, a full rebuild of club and stand would probably have either buried the club or at the very least put them back in the position they were in when they sold all this land in the first place.

Can't see how they could not? You could walk out of the building straight onto the Peter Burns stand...
That was the plan all along. Unfortunately the more the old club got demolished (internally), the more problems with the structure arose.
Stopping the shopping centre / units to prioritise the club would not have made a difference to sorting the club out. In fact it would have made it worse as they would have had to pay delay costs to the developer.
In addition, the original fit out contractor's costs that they had ear marked for the club sky-rocketed which put the club back to square one.
Unfortunately, Covid and gambling on engineering advice (with the benefit of hindsight) lead to this unfortunate situation.
Upper Peter Burns stand would have gone but the lower stand would have stayed (a bit or work with additional support etc.

They originally purchased as a Sharks Store and Admin office (and started the refurb) but have now changed their mind and are looking to lease it out.

Agree. What’s a retail store cost to lease? 3-4K a week?Much better idea IMHO.
