Moa is currently waiting for his visa to come through and will head to East Yorkshire when it does to start pre-season training.

MOA MAKES HULL SWITCH

Hull have signed Tonga World Cup prop Sam Moa from Cronulla Sharks on a one-year contract.

The 22-year-old only broke into the Sharks side last year and has limited experience at the top level but Hull believe he has potential.

Moa, who made three appearances at the World Cup, will head for the KC Stadium after receiving visa clearance.

Coach Richard Agar said: "Sam is very keen to try his hand in Super League and we feel it is very much a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained.

"He has very much come to prove himself, and we'll give him that chance.

"His potential caught the eye during the World Cup, where he impressed. He is a raw talent with the potential to be a Super League front rower.

"We have signed him for the 2009 season and if things work out then we'll look at the situation at the end of the year."

Hull's major signing for 2009, Michael Crocker, is also still to arrive in the UK as he awaits a visa. They will join Chris Thorman, Mark Calderwood and Dominic Maloney as new signings at Hull.

Hull FC have snapped up Tongan prop forward Sam Moa on a one-year contract.

A big powerful prop the 22-year-old former Cronulla Shark is seen by Hull as a project and someone they hope they can launch into the engage Super League.

Moa is currently waiting for his visa to come through and once it does he will head for the KC Stadium and join his new teammates.

He is something of an unknown having only played a handful of games for the Sharks after making his NRL debut against West Tigers at Toyota Stadium earlier this year.

Moa has however, played three times for Tonga in the World Cup where he impressed and coming in at over 6ft and scaling 114 kilos he is a big unit and will add some extra beef to Hull's front row.

After completing the deal Head Coach Richard Agar said: "Sam is very keen to try his hand in Super League and we feel it is very much a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained.

"He has very much come to prove himself, and we'll give him that chance.

"His potential caught the eye during the World Cup where he impressed. He is a raw talent with the potential to be a Super League front rower

"Sam is big, strong and a powerful ball carrier who has the potential to make an impact."

"We have signed him for the 2009 season and if things work out then we'll look at the situation at the end of the year."

Hull FC's newest recruit Sam Moa

HULL FC coach Richard Agar says the capture of Tongan prop Sam Moa will not signal the end of their player recruitment process.

Moa, 22, has penned a one-year deal at the KC Stadium after impressing for his homeland at the World Cup.

But because he will fill Hull's final non-federation trained spot, the club are still in the hunt for a quota target.

Agar told the Mail: "Signing Sam doesn't alter our chance of bringing in another player and we're still very much in the market and actively looking around.

"We're at a point where experienced, quality players are hard to come by, and we feel this is very much a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained.

"Sam expressed a strong desire to come to Hull. He really wants his chance and we have the scope to give him that chance."

Moa is something of an unknown, playing only a handful of games for Cronulla Sharks and mainly turning out for their reserve grade side.

But at 6ft 2ins and 114kg, Agar feels he has the size to cope with Super League and will add some extra beef to Hull's front row.

When asked what Moa will bring to his side, the Hull coach said: "He's a good, young, powerful front-rower, who carries the ball hard and has the ability to scatter defenders. He's by no means the finished article, but he has bags of potential."

Moa is currently waiting for his visa to come through, but he will join up with his new team-mates as soon as it arrives.

The Mail understands he could be joined by another new quota arrival inside the next 14 days.

But a signing is not likely to be made before the club return from their pre-season training camp in Portugal, where they are scheduled to fly to on Thursday.

Hull have signed Sam Moa, the Tongan forward who was at the center of amusing confusion when he played against Samoa at the World Cup.

Moa, a 22-year-old who was with Cronulla last season, is described as "a project" by the KC Stadium club, who signed him for the season and had been looking to strengthen their front-row since losing Garreth Carvell to Warrington.

Hull's coach, Richard Agar, said: "He has very much come to prove himself, and we'll give him that chance. He is a raw talent." Huddersfield, meanwhile, are set to move for Wakefield's half-back Jamie Rooney as a replacement for Todd Carney, the Australian who was due to join but has been refused a visa.

Hull FC's Sam Moa

IN just 10 minutes of rugby Hull FC prop Sam Moa knew he'd found somewhere he belonged.

His debut at Huddersfield may only have been a cameo performance, but leaving the Galpharm Stadium two weeks ago, Moa was buzzing with excitement.

The glare of the TV cameras, the speed of the game and most of all the passion of the fans convinced him his move to Hull FC was the right one.

Just five days after swapping an Australian beach for Hull's mud flats, the Tonga international enjoyed a debut he will never forget.

Fast forward to today, and with another performance against Bradford under his belt, he is still overwhelmed by his start to life in Hull.

It has been a memorable few weeks for a player who insists he will reach new heights this evening, when he finally gets the chance to complete a goal he set at the start of the year.

"I'm really excited about running out at the KC Stadium and it is going to be a big occasion for me" explains Moa.

"I'm also looking forward to pulling on the famous black and white jersey for the first time as all I've worn so far is the blue and white one."

Signed in January on a one-year deal from Cronulla Sharks, Moa has quickly settled into life in East Yorkshire.

Shown the sights by close friend Willie Manu and having Todd Byrne living in the flat above him to offer company and more than the occasional meal, Moa has slotted easily into the fabric of the club.

An effervescent character at the training ground and a committed performer on the pitch, Moa may have arrived without a fanfare, but he doesn't intend to leave in the same manner.

He said: "It's only been a few weeks now but I can certainly see myself staying over here.

"My debut was an experience and a half. The build-up was amazing and I actually felt like I was part of something special, with the crowd, cheerleaders and what was going on getting me pumped up.

"It makes you want to be part of a team more when you see a club that has so many fans supporting it."

Like a child in a sweet shop and with a golden ticket firmly in his hand, Moa is determined to make the most of his opportunity.

Moa will make his third successive appearance this evening and with his game time steadily being increased, the home fans can look forward to getting a good look at a potential new terrace hero.

His two performances so far may have been brief, but Moa is confident there is much more to come.

He said: "I've talked to Richard Agar and it's like I'm a work in progress.

"He's going to progress me each week with more game time.

"I'm looking forward to that and hopefully staying injury free and playing some good football.

"I'm not at full fitness yet, but I'm certainly much better than when I first got here.

"My role here is to come off the bench and do something to lift the side, whether that be a big hit or a big play. That's what I'm looking forward to doing tonight."

HULL FC: Moa won't look back
07:36 - 07 July 2009

TONGAN international Sam Moa insists he and his Hull FC team-mates have the heart to fight for a play-off spot.

And the 23-year-old prop is hoping he has done enough to convince coach Richard Agar he can be a pivotal player in the run-in.

While the Black and Whites went down 43-30, the former Cronulla Sharks man was one of a handful of players to catch the eye with an impressive performance.

Buoyed by his display, Moa is hopeful of maintaining his place in the team for the trip to Castleford on Sunday.

It is a contest which could have a big influence on FC's top-eight hopes, but Moa says it is a match Hull can approach with confidence.

"We showed against Leeds we have a lot of heart in this team" he said.

"We lost two players early and it was a credit to everyone that we all put our hands up.

HULL FC: Moa may yet be handed new deal
September 11, 2009, 06:20

HULL FC coach Richard Agar says popular prop forward Sam Moa may yet win a new deal with the club for next season.

Agar has this week informed a number of players their services will not be required for 2010.

But speaking ahead of tonight's final game of the season at home to Bradford, he indicated Moa may be retained, saying he is firmly in consideration for next season.

The Black and Whites are expected to officially confirm tomorrow which players will be released.

As previously predicted by the Mail, Paul King, Tommy Lee and Graeme Horne are expected to be on that list alongside the likes of Motu Tony and Jamie Thackray.

However, Moa has been told to bide his time while the club decides how to proceed with its final quota place.

"Sam Moa is very much in the frame. He has done everything he possibly can and we like having him around the place as he is a terrific kid," Agar told the Mail.

"Sam knows the picture and is fully versed with where we are at and we will see how it unfolds.

"Tonight will be some players last game and they all now know."

Signed from Cronulla Sharks on a one-year deal, Moa has impressed in recent months with a series of eye catching displays off the bench as an impact prop.

The 23-year-old's future remains in the balance however with Hull boasting just one free position on their overseas quota and with money to spend on the salary cap.

The Black and Whites are believed to be chasing an outside back in Australia, but could still opt to hand Moa a contract.

As well as filling their last quota position, Agar has also admitted another new signing could be imminent to follow on from the capture of Jordan Turner from Salford this week.

Agar added: "Jordan won't be our last signing, but the deals are never done until they are done so it would be remiss to say when anything will be announced.

"We certainly have enough in the salary cap for at least one if not two signings.

"We will look to replace Josh Hodgson as he has left a gap at that end of our salary cap and I'd like to think we could move quite quickly to fill that gap."

Moa sticks with Airlie Birds
Last updated: 3rd October 2009

I think Hull are a club on the rise, they have a strong squad with some excellent players and I really wanted to be part of that

Sam Moa has rejected offers from rival Super League clubs to sign a new two-year contract with Hull FC.

The 23-year-old has impressed off the bench for the Airlie Birds this season, attracting interest from several other teams.

However the Tonga international had decided to stay put, pledging his future to the Black and Whites until the end of the 2011 campaign.

Moa only arrived at Hull from Cronulla Sharks midway through 2009 but quickly became a firm favourite with the supporters.

Hardest decision

"This has been one of the hardest decisions of my career, but I know I have made the right one," he said on the club's website.

"I think Hull are a club on the rise, they have a strong squad with some excellent players and I really wanted to be part of that.

"They gave me an opportunity this season and I worked hard, but now it is down to me to prove I have what it takes to make it at this level and make sure I can be a strong and consistent performer for Hull FC."

News of Moa's new deal is the latest boost for coach Richard Agar, who has already begun planning for next year with a plethora of signings.

Sean Long and Jordan Turner have been snapped up from St Helens and Salford respectively while Australian duo Craig Fitzgibbon and Mark O'Meley have been recruited from the NRL.
