From RLW:
  • With the wind and the driving rain at their back, the giant-killing Raiders ripped Cronulla apart in the first half, leading 24-2 at half-time. Canberra, under Don Furner were proving themselves a home away from home for Sydney footballers refusing to be dismissed to the scrapheap.
  • Cronulla tried desperately to rally in the second half, and Canberra finally cracked in the 65th minute, with Cronulla's replacement fullback Forrest scoring.
  • None of the Cronulla players stood out. Fullback Andrew Ettingshausen, who played creditably in last week's game against Newtown, had a shocker in the heavy rain and swirling wind, and was replaced at half-time.
