ben ross will be pleased

new referees rooms, so they have a better level of comfort while they talk over how they will f*ck the sharks over

new cocktail room will just lead to more harassing of sponsors daughters, punching sponsors and snakes in stairwells

Sea Eagles race against time

NERVOUS times await Sea Eagles management over the coming months as construction workers attempt to turn Brookvale Oval into a modern-day venue.

Warringah mayor Michael Regan guaranteed to The Manly Daily on Thursday renovations of the old ground will be complete by round five of the upcoming NRL season.

The estimated $2million works have already forced the Sea Eagles away from the peninsula in the opening month of the premiership.

The Daily understsands the Sea Eagles are a little anxious about the ground being ready for their April 11 clash with Cronulla, possibly forcing officials to investigate alternative venues in Sydney.

But Regan silenced those fears, guaranteeing the first phase of the three-stage process is on track.

“We have committed to completing the works in time for the Sea Eagles first home game,” he said.

“We have spoken to the project manager and we are on track to meet that commitment.

“It’s all looking pretty good and we are working hard.”

Manly CEO Graham Lowe met with council on Thursday afternoon and remains content the renovations will be completed on time.

“As deadline draws near, everyone gets a little nervous,” he said.

“We’ve certainly got confidence in what’s happening, it’s just that as it draws near, everyone takes a deep breath.”

When asked if contingency plans for alternative venues were in place, Lowe said:

“It’s a bit early at this stage.”

Renovations to the old ground include:

*Revamping the existing Jane Try Stand change rooms, including improved security access points for players and staff;

*Upgrades to seating in the Jane Try and Ken Arthurson Stands;

*Refurbishment to the lounge Area of the Ken Arthurson Stand mid-level, and construction of new corporate boxes to the Ken Arthurson Stand upper-level.

The works are funded by a joint council-state government grant.

THE SEA Eagles may be forced to move their first home game to Gosford with construction workers racing the clock to complete Brookvale Oval upgrades before the club's round-five clash against the Sharks.

In what would be another disastrous start to a season following the Brett Stewart scandal last year, Manly boss Graham Lowe called the NRL during the week to discuss alternatives if Brookvale Oval is not ready for the April 11 match.

"Graham Lowe called both myself and the Sharks this week to discuss a plan B," said NRL Chief Operations Officer Graham Annesley.

"They have been told by the Warringah Council that the ground will be ready but they think it is wise to have a plan B just in case something happens.

"All is on track for it to be ready for the Sharks game but bad weather or unforseen circumstances could put that back."

Already starting the year with four away games, moving the round-five clash could prove a major blow for the Sea Eagles, who draw a huge home advantage from playing at the ground known as the "Fortress".

The club was last year granted $10 million in funding for renovations to the dilapidated ground which include refurbishment of the dressing rooms, public amenities and food and drink outlets.

Stage one of the redevelopment is scheduled to be completed before the Sharks clash, while further refurbishments will take place during the season.

The council will pay $4 million towards the upgrade and the State Government will pay $6 million.

Annesley said the Sea Eagles would be able to move the match to the ground of their choice should Brookvale be unavailable.

"That would be their decision to take," Annesley said. "Whether they move it to Gosford or somewhere like the SFS or ANZ is up to them."

Wembley in Warringah

AMBITIOUS Manly boss Graham Lowe believes Brookvale Oval can be transformed into a venue resembling Wembley Stadium.

Lowe and Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn inspected the old ground on Monday morning.

Warringah Mayor Michael Regan used the walk-through tour to guarantee the ground will be ready for Manly’s round-five encounter with the Sharks.

<EDITED>

The estimated costs for the opening phase of the upgrades on Brookvale Oval is around $3.8 million.

A relaxed Lowe said the works will ensure rugby league fans get a product comparable with Wembley Stadium when the football season gets going.

<EDITED>

The works will keep the Sea Eagles away from the peninsula for the opening month of the premiership but Cr Regan yesterday guaranteed everything will be finished in time for the April 11 clash with the Sharks.

“Everything is all well and truly on track and will be ready for that first game,” he said.

“It all looks good and everyone is working hard together to get it done,” Regan said.

Brookie beauties ready for 2010 NRL season - The Manly Daily

Brookie beauties ready for 2010 NRL season
18 Mar 10 @ 04:17pm
by Andrew Prentice

EVERGREEN Seabirds instructor Monique Carroll has picked a squad of beauties for 2010, and has promised ``quite a show’’ at Brookvale Oval this year.

``We have assembled a number of fresh faces, aged between 18 and 28, who love performing,’’ she said.

``The majority are studying at university, and one of the girls is a nuclear scientist.

``We have been working hard on our routines and can’t wait to perform in front of a big crowd.’’

Peninsula fans will have to wait a while to see the girls in the flesh, with the first home game against the Cronulla Sharks not until mid-April thanks to the ongoing developments at Brookie.

<EDITED>

SMOKERS beware: Brookvale Oval is now a smoke-free venue for the first time.

People attending NRL matches at Brookvale will have to get a pass out and leave the ground if they want to have a smoke. Two designated areas outside the ground will be available for smokers.

In other news surrounding Brookvale Oval, the finishing touches will be completed in the upcoming week to the new dressing room renovations (Jane Try Stand) and corporate areas (Ken Arthurson Stand) for the Cronulla game.

It is the first step on the remodeling of Brookvale Oval, which will go ahead in the future despite the opposition from a minority of Warringah Council representatives.

Revenge will be sweet.

We'll be heading into this one with so much confidence after getting the win and really Manly have not looked the great so far this year.

I agree it is a good time to play them. They seem a little bit off of late, and they lack Stewart (as usual).

We will win. Manly without Stewart & loss of Orford is a very beatable team. Especially if we play the same kind of footy we did tonight.

I will be doing everything in my power to be on the bus with the CSSC to Brookvale for this one. I reckon Manly are ripe for a good old fashioned bludgeoning led by a fired up Luke Douglas.

Agreed mate and neither should the boys. If they roll up their sleeves and fight them in an arm wrestle on a sunny afternoon I think we can get ahead. I want Douglas to stand up and show the world what he is made of. He'll be dirty about tonight and he'll be doubly dirty about last year. I want our forwards to dominate again and our backs to show that they can match it. I think if we turn up we can really physically dominate them and get a win about 18-10 or something like that. They should definitely start as favourites though and we need to go in with that state of mind. Like we're these guys rocking up and crashing their party and causing havoc, throwing the plate of caviar out the window and pouring all their champagne down the drain and then rooting all their missuses!

Can't let the boys get a head full of steam after tonight. Hopefully Sticky knocks them back down to earth (with a positive attitude, of course!).
