  • Cronulla lost, but all the newspaper's agreed that they deserved to win. George Taylforth had the opportunity to convert a try from the sideline in the final minutes, which would have given Cronulla the win, but he missed, during what was an off day with the boot for him.
  • The Sun reported that Souths captain, John Sattler, and club secretary, Charlie Gibson, took the rare step of going to Cronulla's dressing room after the game to congratulate "Bishop and his boys."
  • Sattler said: "Bishop is a little marvel and you never know when you have him. They kept at us all the way, and nobody would have complained had they knocked us off with that last-minute goal kick."
  • Souths international forward John O'Neill, who the Sun said rarely gave any praise to opposition, also paid tribute to Bishop: "You think you have covered what he has on, but he does the complete opposite."
