From RLW:
  • For lengthy periods Balmain pounded Cronulla, but the vastly-underestimated Sharks defensive pattern held tight.
  • It was an incredibly tenacious performance from Cronulla considering the Sharks' Amco Cup final victory earlier in the week.
  • Dave Chamberlin's second try was the try of the season. It came in the 58th minute and included 14 passes as the ball lept across field and back again before Chamberlin walked over wide out.
  • Balmain's only try was a gift from Cronulla superstar Steve Rogers, who threw an intercept for winger Wayne Miranda to score.
  • However Rogers was a key to the Sharks' defence, stopping Tigers' second rower Gary Spears twice with gritty front-on tackles. And when Cronulla need a pressure goal, Rogers just doesn't miss, like his conversion from near the touchline that pushed his team to 10-5.
