From RLW:
  • Beckett's slashing scrum domination provided the springboard to the Sharks' win and indeed their charge up the ladder.
  • Newtown stole the march on the Sharks with a 58th minute intercept try to Ray Blacklock, chased 70m by Rogers.
  • Cronulla regained the lead in the 66th minute when Rogers placed a delicate chip for Perry Haddock, who ducked through to dive on the ball in the Jets' in-goal.
  • Forrest played the blindside in the last minute of the match to put Mick Mullane over in the corner.
  • Greg Mullane and Jim See had strong games.
  • Williams topped the tackle count, and formed a near impregnable front row with Sorensen and Beckett.
  • Haddock was everywhere and more than matched his more illustrious rival Ken Wilson.
