Jeremy Smith's tackling method is very judo, he grabs high and uses their inertia to sling them to the pitch, classic stuff

Like Sterlo said mate

"this could be Cumberland Oval because Jeremy Smith just pulled off one of the best Cumberland throws I've seen in a while."

He pulled off a few more throughout the game too.

Gibbs has to get some recognition IMO.

Gordon and Jez have to as well because of their game saving moments.

But Gibbs put in a Gallen like performance.

Gibbs had a blinder. He and Smith kept us tight through the middle and were a big influence on Melbourne going side-ways.

I don't know how many minutes he played but I think he pushed out at least 30 before a break.

Like I said elsewhere, I was really impressed how others manned up in Gall's absence.

Yeah great work.

Fifita was destructive when he ran the ball straight too.

It's not as easy at that for Fifita. If you look at some of those big busts he makes on his highlight reel it comes from angling across field and pulling out that big fend. I doubt there is a better fend in the game (maybe Inglis). I don't mind him making the odd slanting run as it increases his chances of making a break or setting up someone else. He moves well for a big bloke.

Sheens would kill for a bloke like that at Campletown/Leichhardt/ANZ/wherever the **** else they call home.

Yeah the slanting angled runs are fine, and he is difficult to stop on that angle. He does tend to stand flat footed sometimes though. Not that it can be helped all the time, particularly when he gets an offload from someone else. There was one point in the game though when he ran across the field and kinda stunted our momentum a little bit IMO. It wasn't an angled run with intent, it was more of a ballplayers drift. I'm not going to be too critical though.

How about the fend he put on cronk (I think) and absolutely sent him flying.

Also he looked good when he did that Shepard in open space.

Also loving his passion, really wants to win and im always exited to see him come off the bench. Starting to play some big minutes as well for a big guy

I think it's important because it keeps the opposition guessing.

He cracked the 100 going forward and probably would be up around 150 if you included sideways running.

He runs along and the defence are ****ting themselves, holding a line knowing if they show a sign of weakness he'll exploit it. It keeps them really honest. It stops them just rushing and gang tackling him on the times he does go straight.

Maybe later on we can have some angled runners coming back on the inside too.

Wasn't a shepard...just saying,

Decoy went through, and Neilson MADE the choice to move in on him, pulling him out of a position to make a tackle (and tbh he was gonna get to Fifita anyway...) not a shepard or a obstruction

Fifita did run behind him, but at that point the decoy was far enough away to not prevent the defender from having a grab at The Crab....cant just turn around and run the other way because a teammate is there...

IMO

See where your coming from but he wouldn't have been pinned if he had of stopped and passed or took the tackle. Because he took the advantage from running behind a decoy he was pinned. I'm happy with the penalty. If he had of passed the ball before the decoy he would have opened up space.

When I was watching it I knew straight away it would be a penalty.

I understand what your mean Martin, and you see some of those get through every week, but in this case I was happy with the call.

It was a classic Shepard. As text book as they come.

Just finished the game then. Was very impressed. Impressed by everyone. Not everyone played to their full potential but everyone done something in the game to contribute. Played as a team and kept some good structure. Looking forward to the dogs!

Gibbs:
61 minutes
18 hitups for 174 metres
34 tackles
0 penalties
0 errors

I didnt realise what a good prop forward this guy is.
Given the choice of Gibbs and Ross or Douglas and Snowden at their best Id choose the former any day of the week.
Another great thing about these guys is they just do their job. I havent seen a front row tip on play on the 4th tackle attacking the oppostions try line all year and its ****ing great!

Haven't had a chance to comment on the game as yet because I'm still on cloud nine. I'd have to rate that performance as the best I've seen in a decade or more. For those last few tackles my body was shaking with excitement and disbelief that we had knocked the Storm off.

To top it all off, I won my Subway lunch bet with my doggies workmate but now he wants double or nothing against the Dogs this weekend. If we had Gal and Carney I'd jump at the chance but not to sure without them.

What do you guys think?

I'd hit him up for a foot long with a six inch bonus (that sounds a bit gay) and maybe a cookie as well, we're at $2.75 this week
