  • Tommy Bishop retired at half-time with a suspected broken cheekbone and gashed lip.
  • Manly's Terry Randall was sent from the field 2 minutes before half-time for punching (not sure if this was what caused Bishop's injury).
  • Earlier in the first half, the Sharks started brightly enough after a good break by centre Steve Rogers. Tommy Bishop was perfectly positioned to score with the line wide open, but unfortunately Cronulla fullback Warren Fisher came between Rogers and Bishop and spilt the ball.
  • As Manly started to gain ascendancy, Steve Edmonds halted a 60-yard run by Manly winger Max Brown with "a glorious tackle from behind."
  • Cronulla's first try came in the 21st minute of the second half, when Dennehy "served a clever dummy pass" to score under the posts.
  • With 8 minutes to go, Dennehy scored again after supporting Edmonds who had made a long break.
  • With only two minutes left, a potential match-winning try to Cronulla was disallowed, when a pass from Andrews to Edmonds was ruled forward. The Australian did report that it was a fair call.
