From RLW:
  • Young half-back Phil Blake scored three sizzling tries to play a big role in Manly's runaway win. Manly never looked in any real danger against a Sharks side which tried throughout, but were outclassed in most sections of the game.
  • The heat took its toll on the big men like Dane Sorensen and McNamara, as well as Dave Brown and Geoff Gerard from Manly.
  • Cronulla lack pace in the backs, with Blake, Phil Sigsworth, Chris Close and Noel Cleal constantly running away from them.
  • Kurt Sorensen was easily his team's best, and scored a strong try. He spent time in the sin-bin for a high tackle on Chris Close, though earlier he had flattened Manly hooker Ray Brown in a legitimate tackle.
  • Miller, Dane Sorensen and Beckett were also among Cronulla's best, but the financially riddled club could not compete with a team boasting reserve forwards such as Max Krilich and Ian Thomson.
