NRL.com suggested yesterday that on thursday's training he couldnt move well and couldnt pass at all and couldnt really take part in the training as a result and that it was extremely unlikely he would play.

So it would be unlikely but with players as tough as Gallen or Bird (in previous seasons) you never know. They just seem to turn up to play anyway and have great games.

New Zealand Warriors coach Ivan Cleary says the dramas surrounding NRL cellar-dwellers Cronulla have had no impact on his preparations for Sunday's match at Toyota Park.

The Sharks go into the game with a new captain, with Trent Barrett to lead out the side after Paul Gallen relinquished the role earlier this week.

Gallen's decision came after he made a public apology for a racist comment directed at St George Illawarra forward Mickey Paea last month.

The move capped a horror month for the Sharks, who are heavily in debt and were rocked by revelations of a group sex scandal in New Zealand in 2002 and off-season recruit Reni Maitua testing positive for a banned substance.

But Cleary, who signed a two-year contract extension during the week, says Sunday's game will be just as tough as any other in the NRL.

"It's been the last thing I've been thinking of," he said.

"It's just another NRL team and they're all tough in their own way."

Cleary believes the Sharks will be boosted by their victory last weekend over Parramatta, a result which snapped a run of nine successive defeats.

But the Warriors had their own lift last week, defeating the Tigers 14-0 on a wet and cold night in Auckland.

That win came at just the right time for Cleary's side, after a run of just one victory from their previous eight outings.

Giant winger Manu Vatuvei agreed the win had been just the tonic for the Warriors, who have had a disappointing first half of the season.

"We needed it, we were pretty down the past few weeks," Vatuvei said.

"We just needed a win to get our confidence back up because it was kind of dropping all the time."

Cleary has made two changes from the team which beat the Tigers for the Sharks clash, welcoming back skipper Steve Price from Queensland State of Origin duty and bringing in Aidan Kirk at centre for the injured Patrick Ah Van.

The Sharks, boasting one of the most inexperienced backlines in the club's history, have named Gallen after the tough backrower missed Wednesday's Origin opener in Melbourne for the Blues due to a shoulder injury.

It's just another NRL team and they're all tough in their own way. Warriors coach Ivan Cleary

The Warriors are looking to add to last week’s drought breaking victory with another win this Sunday against the Sharks.

A win against the Struggling Sharks would see the Warriors return to the top eight of the league.

The mood in the Warriors’ training camp was finally lifting this week after a fortnight of heavy defeats.

Warriors coach Ivan Cleary says the team is not letting the win go to their head.

“I think everyone just feels good after a win, there certainly hasn't been any parties this week, we've got to build from the win and start again this week,” says Cleary.

The Warriors recorded a staggering 434 tackles to keep the Tigers at bay last weekend.

Warriors’ back rower Jacob Lillyman says the teams’ 14-nil victory over the Wests Tigers built a lot of confidence in the side.

“We can take a lot out of it, making all those tackles and the Tigers still not being able to cross our line,” he says.

“It builds a lot of confidence within the team, and we have just got to take that into this week’s game.”

The Warriors travel to Cronulla to take on the sharks - who broke a nine game losing streak with a win over the Eels.

The Sharks are still in last place, with the Warriors expected to win on Sunday.

Lillyman says the team is not taking the game lightly.

“You can't get too far ahead of yourself and start thinking it's going to be an easy game,” he says.

The warriors have traditionally struggled at the Shark’s home ground.

Warriors’ super-sub Lance Hohaia says the team is bracing for an ugly encounter.

“That's the type of football they play, it's just hard, grafting football,” says Hohaia.

“If you want to win against them you have to do the same, there's no easy way around it, no soft options.”

Victory would give the Warriors their first back-to-back win since the opening two rounds of the season.

Its a shame that Gal is out, but we did win without him last week so we know it is possible. Good to see that Milo will get a chance in the starting lineup to show his worth.

Well if our new young guns can play without any silly mistakes and penalty's and frustrate the bros,
we mite be in with a chance.
poms isn't playing so their at least 3 mistakes

Beautiful day for footy out there for players and spectators. Hopefully we'll see a big crowd and a Sharkies win.

Gotta be all over Stacey like a fat kid on a smartie and make Moon do the majority of kicking and play making, he's been crap all year. I'd rather us kick the ball dead this arvo than give their back 3 space - McKinnon and Locke are very quick and skillful, while Vatuvei well lets not let that big f-ck build up speed. Hopefully Porter's kicking game is spot on though and he's very busy turning those big Kiwi's around and wearing them out.

C'MON SHARKIES!

How good has our young ones and porter been today. Stapelton with that superb try, wright showed great strength to beat off 2 players for his try. Fergo has shown a bit of pace and once again good abilities in the air. Porters kicking game is freaking excellent.

bit worried about Barrett though, he seems to be struggling with a leg injury.
