i think the strong wind made the 2nd half hard we able to score those points on the back of good attack and good field postion in the 1st half, the 2nd half was always going to be harder cause of the strong wind the warriors had behind them in 2nd half allowing them to have good field postion and i thought our defence was great in 2nd half.

Cronulla (7) AFTER leading 18-0 after 27 minutes - starting with a lot more enthusiasm and purpose as they attacked the Warriors' right side defence - anxiety threatened to derail the Sharks.

The Warriors got back to 18-10 with 35 minutes left and had the majority of possession and momentum for nearly half an hour.

It was the cool hand of skipper Trent Barrett and their dogged defence - the Sharks made 57 more tackles than the Warriors - that ultimately proved decisive.

A Barrett 40/20 kick set up their first try (from his own bomb) and his terrific trysaving tackle on Manu Vatuvei in the 73rd minute ended the Warriors' comeback hopes.

Young locals Scott Porter and Nathan Stapleton were excellent, with Kade Snowden (39 tackles) their best forward.

Warriors (6) DESPITE a tireless effort by captain Steve Price, who played 66 minutes and made 222m from 24 hit-ups, had six offloads and four tackle busts backing up from State of Origin, the Warriors killed their chances with terrible unforced errors and too many uncertain last-tackle plays.

They did well to get back into the match after going down 18-0. They only completed 28 of 44 sets (63 per cent), which hurt them.

Stacey Jones' class created two tries - a great kick for Vatuvei, and a terrific around-the-corner offload to Jacob Lillyman.

But too often they played laterally, with no one running good straight lines which made them too easy for the defence to pick off.

2nd half we dropped the ball alot and gave the warriors enough chances to put points on the board, but the defence held solid and we won.

Great day at the footy, gotta love those Sunday arvo games! Have to say, I wasn't confident before this match, with Gallen out but I was soon proven wrong when we went to 18-0 up within 30 mins! I had to ask one of my fellow CSSC members in The Cage, "I am at the right game, aren't I?!!" But there was no doubt about that, with the CSSC in fine voice - I don't think I've ever sung "Up, Up, Cronulla" so many times at one game!

The second half was a bit of a nail-biter, with the Sharks pulling their usual stunt of giving the opposition enough to get back in the game but this time our defence was up to the task. We are still giving away too many metres from dummy half and are vulnerable to having the odd, long break made against us but at least we were able to scramble and prevent the Warriors from scoring.

Hard to pick a player who didn't put in today, I thought we were pretty consistent across the park. Fergo showed glimpses of his potential once again although still a bit too error prone but on the improve. Matty Wright played well and seems to be growing in confidence. Stapleton, once again, very reliable at the back and how good is his backing up? When he stormed on to that short pass to score, it was like watching a Peachey try of old! Porter was on fire again, with a great kicking game in the first half and a solid performance in the second, despite a strong breeze against him. Barrett had a good game with Porter taking some pressure off him, great 40/20 in the first half which lead to a try. Made some good hits in defence too when needed. All our forwards also deserve a wrap, they worked their butts off as ususal and kept us going forward.

For me though, it was hard to go past the performance of Reece Williams and Tupou today. Every time they had the ball they looked dangerous and Williams run and offload for Wrights try was one of the best! Williams at centre has been a revelation! I was reluctant to see him move out of the second row but he is doing an outstanding job in the centres. Defence is solid and his footwork and speed are surprising. I think he and Pom's could be due for a position swap!

I took my son to the after-match function to meet the players and he was stoked to get his jersey signed by every single player! This is the sort of thing that will get the fans down to the game more often.

The only criticism I can make is of the management of the after game function. There is a long wait for the players to come out as they have to shower, change and must re-hydrate to their pre-game weight before leaving the rooms. This is fine but during that time, there is only one bar open and the lines were twenty minutes long! No wonder the club is struggling financially! You've got probably a thousand people there looking to spend their money and they have to wait twenty minutes to get a drink? Not good enough.

Apart from that minor whinge, it was a great day at the Club and I am looking forward to many more like it!:cheers

What did you guys think of Selmes last night?

Last week i criticised Wright and Selmes and didnt notice Vea.

This time i thought Vea was great, Wright much improved defensively and didnt notice Selmes.

Sharks slayed them in the first half and then for the middle 30 seemed a completely different team and then came good at the end - I am guessing it may have something to do with the interchanges at these times but i cant remember who was on or off, another thought was ricky changed something tactically. Did anyone else notice?

Young guns shine in round 13

Young guns have starred in round 13 of the NRL with second-gamer Scott Porter inspiring Cronulla to a win over the Warriors, while Daniel Mortimer played a big hand in helping Parramatta to victory against Newcastle.

Porter drew big praise from Sharks coach Ricky Stuart after his side fought their way off the bottom of the NRL ladder with an 18-10 win over the Warriors at Toyota Park on Sunday.

It was just the third win of the season for the Sharks and their second in as many weeks after snapping a nine game losing streak against Parramatta last weekend and relegated the Sydney Rooster to last.

The Sharks have turned their season around since 24-year-old Porter, who has his own lawnmowing business, has joined the side from playing NSW Cup.

But the halfback wasn’t willing to take credit for Cronulla’s win.

“It’s sort of a tough time for the boys, nine weeks in a row where they couldn’t win and Stick (coach Ricky Stuart) sort of sat me down and had a talk to me and told me what he wanted from me just a bit more better organisation and kicking game,” Porter said.

“I sort of hope that I have brought that to the team.

“Yeah the last two times I’ve played we’ve won and hopefully that we can keep winning.

“I don’t take credit for it, it’s a team effort. Everyone works hard, just as much as I do.”

New Parramatta five-eighth Mortimer, also a second-gamer, was instrumental in the Eels’ 20-18 upset victory over Newcastle at EnergyAustralia Stadium in Newcastle on Sunday.

“I’m kind of the Steven Bradbury of rugby league, everyone in front of me just falls over,” Mortimer said.

Melbourne whiz kid Joseph Tomane scored a triple in the Storm’s 48-4 thrashing of Brisbane at Olympic Park on Friday night.

The 19-year-old winger contributed 24 points to the Storm’s score in just his ninth first-grade game.

Jonathan Thurston bucked the trend and showed the youngsters they still have a long way to go to match him in skill and experience when he continued his purple patch of form with 10 points in North Queensland’s 46-12 demolition of South Sydney just three days after winning man of the match for Queensland in State of Origin.

Penrith halfback Luke Walsh contributed two tries in the Panthers 26-10 drubbing of the Wests Tigers, while last year’s break-out cult hero David Williams scored a 90-metre try which helped Manly to a 38-18 victory over the Sydney Roosters.

1. Back on the Warriors rollercoaster

Just when you thought the Warriors had turned a corner in their season, they go ahead and lose to the lowly Cronulla Sharks.

It was around this time last year the Warriors went on an impressive winning streak to seal a playoffs berth. But everything tells me this time around it will be a much tougher task.

2. Engine room firing

One good sign from the Warriors in round 13 was the stellar efforts of No.8 and No.10.

The oldest man in the game Steve Price was outstanding, surpassing the 200 metre mark while fellow prop Sam Rapira got knocked out cold early but came back to play a strong game.
