RIP Alan Clarkson.

For those who don't know, Alan Clarkson was a highly respected Rugby League journalist from the old school who prided himself on writing articles that actually contained the truth and talked about the game that was played.

No controversies, no speculation, no scandal, Clarkson told it as it was.

I will hark back to my young days when I wanted to be a journalist. I covered a game in the early 80s at Shark Park for the Engadine District News and sat up in the old press box. Alan Clarkson was there that day and he helped me in any way he could. He was polite, encouraging and a fountain of knowledge on the game.

I will remember him always.

I vaguely remember him although not as strongly as I remember Frank Hyde. Don't know why that is.
