Sharks Re-Sign Leutele and Frizell
9/08/2010 3:00:03 PM

The Hisense Cronulla Sharks today announced the re-signings of promising Toyota Cup players Ricky Leutele and Tyson Frizell.

The pair will remain at the club until the completion of the 2012 season after they both signed new two-year deals.

“Ricky and Tyson both have big futures at the club and it will be good to see them training with the full time squad,” Flanagan said.

“Ricky has been 18th man for the NRL side on three occasions now and the club is really looking forward to both players progressing.”

“They are both very exciting players and I’m really looking forward to working with them.”

Having featured heavily for the Sharks under 20’s side this year, Toyota Cup and Assistant NRL coach Joey Grima believes both players are going from strength to strength.

“These signings just identify the strategy the club has moving forward,” Grima said.

“Both these boys have the ability and skill to play in the NRL and it demonstrates Shane's philosophy on rewarding players from the junior ranks.”

“They have enormous potential and both possess good size, speed and agility, which are three of the main traits you need to play at the highest level.”

Leutele has been a revelation at centre since joining the club last season, while Frizell’s transition from rugby union to rugby league in less than a year has impressed the coaching staff.

“Ricky’s ability to beat defenders is of a very high standard, but where he has really excelled is with his defensive decisions… he really reminds me of Willie Tonga,” Grima said.

“Tyson has also been a great find for the Sharks and has been outstanding in his first year of league.

“He’s made quite an easy transition, particular in defence, and he is always asking questions and takes everything on board.”

Leutele will feature in the Sharks NRL squad in season 2011 and both will train with the senior players full time during the off season.

maybe Leutele isn't so far off after all! It also says he will be in the top 25 next season.

You know its a slow signing week when we make a big deal out of the re-signing toyota cup players. Good player Ricky is though, great news.

Leutele has every chance of being a good first grader. Leutele, Peachey, O'Donnell and Goode are the highlights of that team. I have a bit of time for Snelson as well.

Must be trying to hide the fact that we havent signed anyone. Great propaganda tool.

Great news. Ricky is fun to watch. Imagine if he puts some solid muscle on that frame. We'd be lightning at the back with Ricky, Gards, Ike and either Tighe/Fergo.

How far away is Ricky Leutele?

He is getting a lot of wraps. He will potentially end up being better than whats on the market, the only real concern is going to be his positional play. I wish he could get a run before the end of the season.

Played out of position, better suited on the wing. Still, didn't have a bad game and hope he gets a look in for the future.

Tough debut, struggled a bit in defence I thought, but Inglis and co will do that to you.
