Things should never have changed from back in the day. There was nothing better than going to the game early and watching the kids first, then Reserve Grade ( where all the blokes that missed out on a first grade spot played) then the big match. You should progress through the ranks IMO

For those not familiar with the club championship, it was calculated like this.

First grade points X 4
Reserve Grade points X3
Under 23's points X2

The Club with the most points won the "Club Championship"

They have the club championship in the big leaguemag. 1st grade and NYC points combined. When was the last time we win the real club championship Gil. I'm guessing 96. Think that was when we made it to both of the lowergrade grand finals

There is a NSW Cup double header next Sunday 22/4/12 @ Toyota Stadium, Illawarra Cutters V Newcastle Knights, Cronulla Sharks V Manly Sea Eagles. Shame we are scheduled to play Canberra in Canberra that day.

I would certainly be a supporter of three grades in the one day like the old days. For mine it has to be Under 23s, followed by reserve grade and then the big match. Used to love that when I was younger through the 80s I would arrive around 12pm for the first game, then watch reserve grade wich usually started around 1.25pm and then the big game at 3pm. At the end of the reserve grade, everyone would mill in the tunnel while walking off and then the first grade side would run out a matter of minutes later.

When the first grade side came out you would have the referee come on first - if it was Greg Hartley, he would shrillily blow the whistle and prance out like he owned the playing field. Real show pony stuff. Then the Sharks would run out followed by the opposition.

For some reason this was changed at some point to have the opposition come out first, followed by the home team and the referee at the end. I do know why they brought the ref out last - it was to shift the focus of the ref to the players. Due mostly to Hartley's show pony antics. But does anyone know why they changed the order of the teams running on?

I know most clubs now would struggle if everyone had three grades due to the amount of travels costs but I guess if we get a good TV deal the extra revenue may help.

Prefer the idea of Reserves followed by Firsts on game day. Also like the idea of then having a couple of televised 20's games during the week. Clubs with the suburban grounds could obviously have all 3 grades play on game day a few times a year. Plenty of options.

If the supposed extra cash comes to the NRL, should be viable.

i watched the NSW cup game last night and the crowd was poor at best. Those guys deserve better then that, it should be played along with the NRL games.

I'm loving the idea, apart from the 20's being shafted to Wednesday. I think I'm in the majority here where I say that we want all three grades on the one day.
