My son and I recorded our first podcast together over the weekend. It is pretty primitive but doesn't sound too bad for our first go. I'm not sure how to upload it on here but I'll ask my son this afternoon - I'm sure he'll know. We haven't put it up on public display just yet, but will try to do it soon.

We call it the Full Time Sports Podcast (boring I know but it's a working title and may change) and we don't just cover the NRL, we'll touch on other sports too.

In our first episode we discuss:

  • NRL Round 1 in Vegas
  • Quick preview of the remaining NRL Round 1 games
  • Discussion of 1st Cricket Test between Australia v NZ
  • A few seconds on the SuperBowl (that's all it deserves. 😆)
  • Update on the current PGA Golf Tournament in Florida
One thing I know I will need to correct for next time is limiting the ums and ahs and also letting my son talk a bit more. He is good and does have things to say, but I need him to be more engaged.

Great thing to do with your son, mate. That's good quality Father/Son time.

I'll happily have a listen when it's up although I may skip the golf bit ;)

Thanks HB. It's great fun!

The golf bit is only about 90 seconds so not very long. There will be lot more in coming episodes though!

I have to admit, my son screws up his face on the golf stuff, he's not a big fan either. When I start telling him what Min Woo Lee has done, he walks away!

Nice one mate! Obviously I can't comment too much without hearing it, but some ums and ahs are definitely acceptable for a podcast – it's meant to be a relaxed, conversational thing.

If you are looking to train you and your son out of them though, the best way to do it is to embrace silence – just pause for a moment. Admittedly I'm not sure how this works in a purely audible medium, but it's what I recommend for public speaking etc.

I don't know if this will work for you all but below is the link to our podcast.

Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll try to figure out something else.

If it does work, I'd love to hear what you think about it - remember it is our first one!

Just finished it Chad. Great for a first podcast with what I assume no experience that translates to it.
Audio quality was better then some podcasts that I regularly listen to. There is a faint background sound. Maybe a fan or just some static, not sure but might be worth looking into.
Young bloke sounds good on the mic but agree might be best to let him speak a bit more.

Good work all round for a first.

I'll be sure to give it a listen mate, I think it's great that you've found something like this to do with your boy.
... I only have 14 hours of Supercoach podcasts to get through and I'll be straight on it :)

Secured an interview with Ian Roberts. Filming it live in roughly 4-6 weeks. Going to be a good one lads!

Got other Celebs coming on the show too so keep an eye out.

For any Pokémon nerds out there. I’ve just secured an interview with Jason Paige.
Creator and singer of the original Pokémon Theme Song. Bloody excited about this one.

So just for anyone whose curious I have 2 types of podcasts realised under the one banner. One focused on pop culture and the other one is based on interviewing people who I believe have a really good story to share that people would enjoy and find interesting.

So far interviewed

Jay Tavare (street fighter actor played Vega)
Gyton Grantley (Carl Williams in underbelly, house husbands)

Future interviews

Warrick Capper
Ian Roberts
Jason Paige
Cheryl Chase

Just getting into my morning coffee still and that sentence threw me off at first haha

Most hobbies are a rip off if you're not the one enjoying them though

Do everything in your power to keep him away from Magic The Gathering.
He'll waste money on it for the rest of his life.
