Player's Salaries - Past and Present

It's an interesting topic these days and everyone has an opinion on it. A player's worth can be hotly debated by many and like so many topics of discussion, opinions can vary.

With the salary cap on the increase, there will be more room to increase player salaries way beyond today's figures.

It prompted me to wonder about the players from the 70s and 80s and how they would feel now seeing the amounts players get paid today. What were the paltry amounts first graders got paid back then? Does anyone know?

I would love to hear from any past players on this forum who may have played some first grade back then.

In 1993 I received $1000 per game playing 1st grade for Gold Coast chargers, I only played 4 games.

I was just happy to play grade , the club went thru a lot of s#it that year, my fav player was Jamie Goddard . Wally as the coach , I spent most of my time in reserves , which was good on one hand because we one more then1 game like firsts.

I'm Jeff Robson, don't tell flanno I said this but they actually signed me and Todd as a package deal and I'm currently getting 890k and Todd is only on 500k.

Johnny Morris is set to sign on for 500k as well. Will be good to have the experienced boys around! And tbh I reckon he's taken a fairly big pay cut.

Weren't they the Seagulls back in 1993? They only became the Chargers in 1996.

Correct ,they had 4 names I think? giants, seagulls, gladiators then chargers. I'm not sure what years they changed names but I think they were only call gladiators for 1 year and that was in between seagulls and chargers.

Chad & born&bred, for your info I did play 12 first grade games and retired from grade due to bad knees but I still play league at the age of 40 and yes I do understand. I played centre and was forced into the forwards, mills has had chances and is just not up to it. Fullback, centre or wing , if he is the best we have forget about making the semi this year then. Junior!
