Nope, not sad to see him go.

He had his moments, however more times than not I found myself berating him instead of congratulating him.

He'll end his contract early and head for the chooks.

Definately can play second row, and in the centres was wasted BUT obviously was forced to play there. But he defense was shown up as a centre when playing there.

Good luck to him, personally I thought he didn't do much since he made reps BUT majority of that was because he was playing out of position.

i agree great white, i think that raper put him into the centres because he wanted to have him as well as bird/thompson/williams (whoever the second rowers were for each of the games) so that he could have 1 centre and 3 second rowers on the field all the time, it didn't work though!

but did you see people talking about him like they do about benji marshall (i really hate benji marshall).

i also agree that he has plenty of talent, its just that he doesn't always use this talent.

He is a second rower though, not in the mould of Sonny Bill and nor a ballpayer of Marshall so hard to compare.

I also think he dropped a little after making rep footy.

he did seem to drop a bit, but i think he was feeling as though he had accomplished what he wanted, and he didn't need to go too hard week in week out.

i reckon wen chris anderson put in the centers wrecked his career. if he had stuck at second row week in week out, he would of been a much better player

I think you may be right, I also think it may have gone to his head slightly, but he seemed to be getting back there this year but not in the same league as he was, but that was also because he was still playing in the centres.

Funny how Beau Scott was bought by Saints as a future second rower and we actually put a second rower in the centres.

I actually like him, I just thing he tries too hard and pushes passes. Effort is there just not execution.

Bailey joins Wigan jet-set
Published Date: 04 January 2007

New face Phil Bailey has arrived at Wigan – and immediately jetted out again.

Just two days after flying 15,000 miles from Australia, the former Kangaroo Test centre hopped aboard another flight bound for the Canary Islands.

But despite only a small respite to recover from jet-lag, Bailey inisists that he can't wait to start mixing with his new Wigan team-mates and grasping the new challenge that lies ahead.

The former Cronulla Sharks centre is the last of the new faces to join Warriors for the 2007 Super League campaign.

Fellow overseas players Trent Barrett and Thomas Leuluai have had their feet under the table since Christmas.

Bailey's arrival has been later and somewhat more hectic.

He said: "It's all been a bit of a whirlwind since I arrived.

"I managed one training session at the JJB Stadium and the next thing, I was packing my suitcase again.

"But I've been told that the next session should be held in the sunshine, so that can be no bad thing."

Bailey, 26, can play either centre or back row but is likely to start his new Wigan career in the threequarter line due to the plethora of back row forwards at the JJB.

This is likely to be decided after a week long camp at the La Santa resort on Lanzarote.

He added: "I'm just thrilled to be joining Wigan.

Bailey lands new Wigan deal
07 Dec 2009

Wigan back-rower and former Australian test player Phil Bailey has agreed a new one-year deal at the DW Stadium.

Bailey, 29, joined the club in 2007 on a three-year deal, and has made 82 appearances and scored 15 tries in that time.

After achilles surgery, Bailey has joined his team-mates for pre-season training and is now re-classified as federation trained, but remains a quota player.

Bailey said: "I am delighted to have signed a new contract having thoroughly enjoyed my time so far with the Warriors. The Club have been great to me, I love the town and the fans have been fantastic. I was really disappointed to miss the end of last season with an Achilles injury but I am well on the road to recovery now and can’t wait to be part of the squad for the new season."

Bailey originally joined the Warriors as a centre, but made the successful switch to the second-row under Brian Noble. He has experience in the NRL with Manly, Northern Eagles and Cronulla, for whom he made more than 100 appearances.

Wigan Chairman Ian Lenaghan said: "We are pleased to have Phil with us for next season. He is a player who adds vital experience and maturity - something which Michael Maguire values with our relatively young squad - and he will play a major part in helping the younger players at the Club develop their game. The deal is financially beneficial to the Club."

Bailey played three tests for Australia in 2003, scoring two tries, and has also played three times for New South Wales State of Origin.

Head Coach Maguire said: "Phil is a great player to have in your squad and I am pleased he is with us for 2010 and possibly beyond. He is whole-hearted and committed and has a great work ethic."

Good for him. He was very inspirational for them in the games before his injury.
