Gallen...What's he doing?

I am expecting a spray from everybody but this i my view about our best player . He has a lot lot do with us not scoring tries [DONT START ME ON THE BACKS]. Since when did he turn into a ball player , i think he stuffs our attack out by getting the ball to much . he is a ball runner and off loader like toups not a ball player . i think he is trying to do to much , sticky should be telling him to run it not set things up . Looking forward to the spray but that is my opinion :cheers

quite a valid comment, he did do a few runs too many today which frustrated me, not as bad as green though, he just looked lost.

Agree, he tried to get involved too much in attack today but it was probably due to the fact Barrett was off and we need something to happen.

I agree to some extent. If anything he should be used as a decoy a bit more often. If I were defending the Sharks and Gallen was running, I'd be pretty confident in committing to tackling him.

Those short side raids on 5th tackle got old quick too. Its good that he's working on the fringes, which as someone said, our backrow doesn't do enough of, but it shouldn't happen at the expense of a kick on the last. If our backrow worked the fringes early the defense would have no option but to stack the edges, opening up the middle. We could then play to our strengths (front and 2nd rowers) up the middle instead of pittng out sh!tty backs against fast, classy backs of the opposition. All that defensive work would serve to knock the opposition centres down a peg or two in attack, giving said sh!tty backs of ours a bit more chance of competing.

He misses the Birdman.

It was always going to take four or five rounds for these new combinations to click. Unfortunately the injury toll is throwing that out the window. We just need to win a few to stay in touch and hope the rest sorts itself out over time.

well at least he is trying... cant fault him on his effort... his always putting in 110% i really dont care if we loose every game as long as every1 is trying... if we simply arent good enough then so be it but just dont wanna see anyone slack off and be lazy

Hopefully with Seymour back this will add more structure in attack, which will mean Gallen can get back to ball running. I think Tupou out played him yesterday, with hard running into holes and great defence, this is all probably to do with Gallen been far too involved in attempteing to be a ball player.

I agree that the Sharks look far more organised when Seymour is there to steady the ship. I too am looking forward to Gallen, Toupou and Williams running on the fringe instead of taking rucks. I also thought that Mitch Brown was a huge improvement on Simmons at fullback. He runs with purpose and seems to be sniffing around in attack which should be encouraged.

yes i agree mitch was better at fullback.

i think simmons was better on the wing then when he is at fullback and centre but still he doesnt have a go. everytime he runs the ball i feel is a waste of a tackle he seems to go sideways alot..

Gallen just tries too hard sometimes.he is so desperate to win..

fellow sharkies....it is nonsense. Gallen is one of our most dangerous attacking players. The number of times he (toups and Barrett) made half breaks and tried to pop a ball up for someone to run off their shoulder was rediculous!! what do you want the bloke to do...wait until one of our centres/wingers/fullback chime into the attack? he will be waiting until Harold Holt returns.....(sorry for the comparison)

totally agree with u.. How good would it be if we had a wade mackinnon at the back .. The amount of times those 3 poke there noses thru and r just waiting for someone on the inside..

Covell is to slow so he isnt there. Simmons well he is simmons and im starting to feel Pom is just a Cat.

I think you hit the nail on the head, too far away, he is trying too hard.

BUT, I also believe, and I said this 2 yrs ago when all were baggin Noddy out, I think a huge part of our problems, a Barrett or a Gallen, and a lot yesterday Tupou go to the line and half get through, and there is not enough of us pushing up in support, I feel we tend to sit back and watch too much, not enough support play, we work hard for one another in defense, maybe we should do the same in attack.

Yes I agree, there is not enough backing up of our forwards when they charge the line. We need more second phase plays.

he's gotten to the stage where his bad game is still a hell of a lot better than a lot of players good games.

he gets heavily marked all the time now and still gets offloads away while taking on the line.
you're probably right in saying he's trying too hard-but thats the sort of player he is, he leads from the front.

when we finally settle into a stable, cohesive unit, he wont have so much work to do.

i reckon that Gal workin the fringes is a positive step. its obviously not something he's done a lot of in the past but if he keeps at it he'll probably get a bit of a nack! we already know he can offload with 1000 dudes hangin off him, imagine how quickly he could take to A) running wide B) drawing defenders C) offloading to the center or wing while still on the trot. Toops would probably be really good at that sort of thing.

we obviously aren't breaking the line by working the middle, its gotta be worth hitting up other options this early in the year while we still have time to work **** out

I don't suppose any of you were listening to 2SM this arvo when Sticky was interviewed.

Gallen was playing to instructions. Ricky's exact words were "I have been trying to put a pass into Gall"

I will also add, because most of you don't seem to watch the actual game that well, Gallen spent a lot of time playing prop as part of the rotation. Changes his entire role for whatever period he is doing that.

You should think yourselves lucky we have him.

Gall is playing good footy, eventually we will get that pass on the blind side and it will all pay off.
