Direct flight Sydney to Suva. Sport mad nation with a national stadium. 5 hours away with no current league affiliation just waiting for someone to come here.

And just before Fiji are represented by a team.

Seems more logical.

What's the weather like there during the season? Similar to Townsville I guess?

"Many clubs have made a tokenistic effort at Gosford. But the Panthers model is a genuine, long term commitment to a strong regional area and it will pay dividends for them."

Gus warned his Panthers' fans time and again to show up or he would start taking away their home games. It is not an NRL initiative and is as disingenuous as it gets.

How will it pay dividends for them in the long term? Gus has a problem that he has one of the largest fan bases to draw on geographically going around and crowds weren't turning up. He conceded himself he had no idea why and was at the point of giving up. What Gus has done here is petulant, will alienate their existing fans, and do nothing to tap into their geographical fan base to fill Penrith Park into the future.

While from the outside it may look like Gus is being petulant he actually is being very smart. He knows (as we do) for a fact that the NRL and State Govt want to have only two govt funded stadia.

However Gus knows Penrith fans want to stay in Penrith - Gus also can get enough political clout to redo the and turn it into a 35k seater modern with all the bells and whistles and be one of the only Sydney sides to play at their own ground it would possibly get shared by the Eels, dogs, tigers and Wanderers but it would be in Penrith heartland.

BUT he has to get fans to stop being apathetic and start turning up - so this is the kick in the bum he is hoping will do it. Plus the club is earning what it does from 3 homes games in one.

So really there is no negative.

These are great ideas but problems arise when you take a home game away to a regional centre or overseas and lose.

Anyone remember the stink that happened when the Sharks took their home game to Lake Taupo and they lost - you had players, the coach and fans complaining that it was stupid to take a home game away and lose home ground advantage and home crowd advantage. Admittedly though, in that particular situation, the game was played in a development area more closely aligned with the Warriors.

It would have been a completely different story had they won though.

The last sentence is the most important there. Friggen cleary bitching that wallace got injured cos the surface was poor. Hed be singing a different tune if they won and robbo did a knee.

same as last year when we went to gosford for a home game v the dogs and lost

Correct and remember all the carry-on that happened on here and on facebook about ticketed membership prices should be reduced because one home game was taken to a development area?

This isn't just a grab for bums on seats. Gould realises that his vision of Penrith becoming the largest sporting organisation in the country needs more than support from the western suburbs of Sydney. By giving the people, in particular, the kids and businesses a slice of his team over an extended period, there will be buy in and as a result, the Penrith brand will start to be far reaching. Like Cronulla, Penrith is not a traditional club like Easts, Souths, Parra who have fans all over the country, they are mostly known in the area of residency. This will provide them with the opportunity to grow their support and sponsorship base.
On top of this, the attraction to the State Government to build a stadium that is within a couple hours of drive for the people over the Blue Mountains will add weight to the Penrith bid. Gus is no dummy and even if they lose 10 competition points over 5 years from playing away from Penrith, the fruits that this will bear will be far greater to their organisation. It may be viewed by some as taking away from the Penrith supporter base and local area, however, the real truth is, it is about giving them more....in time.

Mudgee would be a good fit for a club to take a game to every year, purpose built stadium, big enough country town with plenty of accommodation, wineries and pubs galore, and I have free accommodation there anytime with my parents owning a 25 acre property out there :)

There are a couple of reasons why Penrith chose Bathurst over other regional areas. 1. The have a leagues club in the town, 2. Bathurst is in the middle of Lithgow and Orange, which means that the potential to build support in surrounding area's is far greater than a town like Mudgee, which is more or less on it's own in terms of proximity to other districts. You can also add that it is only 2 hours away from Penrith and people will drive that far to watch their team play (either coming from Penrith to Bathurst, or Bathurst to Penrith). I don't think there would be too many people traveling from Mudgee to Cronulla every second week.

Which was silly because the membership price took that into account. I'm pretty sure prices went up when we got the game back at remondis.

I actually think the lower membership price (albeit with one less game) could actually increase the a appeal of membership to a lot of people.
