not thrilled with it going to morris, but beggers cant be choosers

i have been told he is on **** all money, so they are saving a lot of money not having to pay flanno

he has 13 weeks to show what he can do before we look externally

Sure he's not being paid? He's still under contract and not deregistered yet, I'd think he'd still be getting paid.

I was thinking the same.

Flanno would still be getting paid as he is still technically contracted until the final outcome is known.
It then all obviously depends on what happens next as to whether we save some coin or not.

Even if/when he's derego'd I doubt it'd be as simple as sacking him. The club played along with his disregard for the ban. At very least a payout will be negotiated. No way he leaves $500k+ 2019 contract quietly and fair enough too.

So I doubt highly we're actually saving money with JMo, just not spending as much if we were employing a 2nd top coach.

Hasn’t the club been punished though? They were fined, plus they copped a suspended fine from the ASADA incident that also involved Flanno... surely they are in their rights to boot him if they wanted.

Our $800k whack was our $400k suspended from then plus another $400k. I'd guess we we're in the wrong too based off that.

So we're not an innocent party with Shane going rogue. I would not walk away if I was him with 12mths left on my lucrative contract.

Gotta remember its 2019 and personal responsibility doesn't exist anymore.

We don’t need to sack him if he is deregistered.
He would automatically lose his job whether we liked it or not as the “deregistration” ends his ability to fulfill his end of the contract.
Surely then he would need to seek compensation from the NRL not the Sharks as we have no control over this situation.

Not at all.

His contract of employment is with us, not being rego'd with NRL just means he can't operate in their environment. Furthermore if the actions of our club contributed to his deregistration I'd say we're liable for some responsibility there.

Yep, this is the issue. The club is most definitely liable for his contract payments.

I think there will be scope to not pay him or release him. If you're a stockbroker and require certification from a government body or stock exchange to trade and then lose that certification to trade then you're no longer able to complete your duties you were hired by the company to perform.

I know the example isn't exactly the same but it's similar and there's definitely situations where the company has had recourse to release the employee without a need for a payout.

Unless you know exactly what's in his employee contract then it's all speculation.

I wouldn't think we should have to pay him to cancel his contract... we are not 'firing' him, he is no longer able to fulfill his end of the contract. We would maintain his contract as is if we were able but his end is no longer viable.

Sure the wrongdoing goes both ways... but it goes both ways so he is just as responsible. If he said "no this is half your fault you should pay me" then the answer is that it's half his fault so he can pay us too.

Whether we are paying him now or not would depend on whether he is currently de-registered with chance to appeal or if the punishment does not come into affect until after he has chance to appeal.
As he is not currently coaching I assume he is not currently getting paid - if he gets off I'm sure we can backpay him easily enough.

he is currently suspended and not allowed to be involved in the game, i'd say there is a very high chance we aren't paying him

he didnt get a cent from us in 2014

i remember ben ross making a video about re-signing with us, and the front of the folder had the NRL logo on it and had Cronulla Sharks under it

as the NRL is the governing and operating body i'd be interested to know what the contracts are

either way, if they suspended him for the year, why would we pay him?

Who paid for his US and Europe trip when he went to see how other sporting organisations worked?
Was that out of his own pocket or did we pay to send him?
Wasn’t that during his Sabbatical?

Just watched JoMo's 2.5 minute interview on the NRL app. Dude sounds sharp. Really liked his responses, he sounds like the coach we'd hope to have. Hopefully the results match!
