Having reviewed the sportstab futures betting I notice that we appear to be equal last with Canberra and the Warriors at $34. Even Penrith and the Roosters are on $21. Moderators please stop me if this has been discussed and merge if need be, but surely we don't deserve to be below Penrith and the Roosters (who IMO have gone backwards recruitment wise). Sure last year was a bust but there were reasons (many, many reasons) for this happening. I think that Ricky had the boy's up for most games and we were violated on more than one occasion when it came to bad calls. While I am not under any delusions that we can win it next year, surely we have a team capable of challenging for the eight? With a bit of luck injury wise surely we can only improve. Please tell me if we have been hard done by.

6006 Melbourne 6.00 $
6002 Bulldogs 7.00 $
6010 Parramatta 7.00 $

I do agree with u there Teflon, we do not deserve to be below the Penrith and especially the Roosters, I just think as soon as we have 1 dissapointing yr, the sportsbet always put us down on betting

We'll find out next season I guess.

In any case if you're looking to drop a couple bucks on Cronulla I'd suggest GF winner isn't your market.

look at the recent history of spoon favourites, now tell me how many of them actually won the god dam thing

up the sharks

You're right. Raiders have been faves for the spoon for I don't know how many seasons running and they haven't won it since their first season in '82.

Parramatta blew out to $101 at one stage in '09. haha and Saints were specials for a good while!

What's wrong with being an underdog? It's never bothered me in the past.

I dare say we would be 4.50 to make the top 8 and 10 dollars to make the 4, going on past prices.

Do we deserve to be equal spoon favourotes? absoloutely. Dont drill me, because I believe we have a good shot at the 8, but who else could you possibly put there apart from us? Penrith I hear? Penrith almost made the 8 last yr and were playing some quite exciting footy, they have great juniors coming through yeah? With some quality players in Frank the Tank and luke lewis, I dont rate waterhouse at all, but someone must if he played origin, and I think Petero has one more season in him.

Wests have been spoon shoe ins at the start of every recent seasons, now some people here are even suggesting premiership contenders.

Raiders are usually thereabouts at the start of the yr, but have good players coming through.

New zealand warriors seem like the ones to take home the spoon, but then again if someone said the chooks would have one the 09 spoon this time last yr, you would think " you beauty!!" but you wouldnt really believe it.

We have no real major signings that have caught peoples attention, and lets face it we played absoloutely terrible all 2009, so yeah, I do believe the bookies have us in the right spot.

The good news is, if you take a look at the odds at the beginning of the 06 season, they had St George at 3.75, Parra at 4.50 Broncos at 8.00, bullwogs at 12, chooks at 15 and storm at 26 dollars.

Storm became a dynasty in that season, yeah they didnt win but were the best team, and they werent too far of the spoon in the eyes of the bookies.
The two favourotes there were nowhere to be seen.

I believe with injuries, newcastle or the cowboys wouldnt go far off winning the spoon this yr.

Dont be suprised if broncos sail around the bottom of the ladder.

Yep I don't have any problem with us being last in betting. After what happened this year I think it is fair. I know we will have a big year. I hope that we are still paying $34 at the start of season 2011 because I reckon that is the year we are going to win it.

Guys, don't take any notice of this pre-season betting market. They really are a stab in the dark at this stage. I mean, before the start of the comp last year we were one of the favourites to win the premiership, even Gould was backing us! And, when you think of it, not alot has changed for us since pre-season 09, has it? We had already lost Bird, DeGois and Kimmorley after all. OK, so we then went on to lose Seymour, Kearney, Ross, Anderson and Maitua but, in hindsight, the only real loss there is Kearney and maybe Anderson - but I think his loss is more than made up for in the addition of Cuthbertson. Kearney was always injured anyway.

Since pre-season of 09, youngsters Ferguson and Wright have had a chance to show their potential and there is more to come in the form of Kelly, Vave, Orcher and Bukuya.

All in all, I can't see any reason why we couldn't go on to perofrm exactly like Parramatta did this year. No-one gave them a chance and they made the Grand Final. The fact that we are sailing under the radar this year will only work in our favour as far as I can see.:cheers

The roosters will be a way better side than last year. Just with buying Todd Carney they would have moved in from 34-1 to 21-1. I hate the roosters with a passion but having him in the halves will push them to make the 8 next year...

Why shouldnt we be outsiders? Have we bought anything really to rave on about.? I think in 2008 we were paying either 34-1 or 26-1 at the start of the year anyway and look where we finished. 1 game from the grandfinal.

This year paying 9-1 and had a shocker..

Guys you gotta remember that we are in a serious re building phase....

Lots of young guys with great potential and a smattering of a few old heads.

I think 2010 we will be near the bottom of the table but not on the bottom. To me next year will be similar to 1983, 84 seasons when we had serious financial woes and had to let Rogers and the Sorensons go and relied on the same type of playing group.

That being said......i do think that we will be hard for the bigger teams to beat and its going to be a good season to watch. My prediction is that 2012 or 13 will be our years. Fergo, Kelly, Dougie, Orcher, Stapleton, Porter will really hitting their marks by then.

So in terms of betting where do i see the glorious sharks.....

1. Storm - have bought shrewdly and well
2. Brisbane - massive youth pool to draw from
3. Bullfrogs - again have bought well (with the exception of green)
4. Dragqueens - fantastic coach but the team is the NRL's chocolate soldiers - cant handle the heat
5. Eels - im suspect on Poore. Is he really that good or did bennett make him look that way. Tahu was good in this day but is now old. Have lost Kingston. Still a force though.
6. Gold Coast Tits - good coach, good playing roster. will be stronger if they get birdy. Ones to watch
7. Bunnies - massive foward pack with Asotasi, taylor, ross, lukes, burgess leading the way.....backline is lacking though.
8. Tigers - Have bought well will make the 8.
9. Manly She Beagles - without Orford they will struggle as he drove them around the park will need to find a new general and Foran may be a bit green to fill that role at the moment. Not in the 8.
10. Sharks - This is where i think well be. have bought well and will be difficult to beat. increased members and renewal of Club brand to see the Club end the season stronger than it started.
11. Knights - no major signings, green coach = average year
12. Rooters - better team than wooden spooners ...but not much better.
13. Cowboys - JT and henry are already not happy with each other. Not a happy camp
14. Panthers - have bought a lot of old men.....dads army here we come.
15. Raiders - have retained the bulk core of its playing roster and again will be hot and cold......mostly cold
16. Worriers - already team is under pressure...axing price as captain will cause issues.

I agree completely.

Odds at this stage are designed to make money.

Sharks went poorly last year, someone with more money than sense will drop some on them for wooden spoon.

Odds at this time are designed to get some emotional bets.

Mate, although I think you could have us around the right spot, I think the rest of your ladder is up sh*t creek...

IMO I do believe we deserve to be equal last for premiership odds.

BUT I don't think this means we should be equal spoon favourites. Does that make sense? Even the most optimistic Sharks fan gives the Sharks no chance of their maiden premiership this year, and the odds should reflect that, but that doesn't mean we're more likely to get the spoon either.
