It is early in the year and the team has not gelled yet but so far who do we think we will keep and who do we think can be let go at the end of the year...

Trent Barrett-If he doesnt want to retire then I am happy for him to stay.
Ben Pomeroy- Will have to have a great rest of the year to stay. Gone imo.
Luke Covell- Love the guy, is a leader in our team. If he doesnt retire then I say we keep him out of loyalty like we didnt for Peachey.
Reece Williams- Hard one. Plenty of potential but like Kearney is a liability with injuries. I'd keep him.
Johnny Mannah- Give him a year extension.
Stuart Flanagan- Happy for a year extension for him as well but I assume he will look for a starting spot elsewhere.
Josh Cordoba- I'd let him go. I'd like to sign a quality prop.
Scott Porter (Option for 2011)- Hope we keep him for depth.
Grant Millington- Has been playing well. At worst he is great for depth.
Jason Bukuya- Lots of injuries. 1 year extension.

TBH there are no must re-sign guys other than arguably Barrett. What does everyone else think.

Keep Milo. Although not getting much attention, he's improving and eventually will become a quality backrower for us.
I'm on edge with Mannah. I can't even really remember what he was like when he was on the field for us. He's a big boy, though.

Mannah will find it hard to crack first grade for the next 12 months but there will be a riot if he doesnt get re-signed after what he has been through and quite honestly I might join that riot.

We've got to move on from the Pomeroy and Covell era of outside backs, as much as they have been loved and hated by fans.

I'd let go (hopeful replacement):
Barrett-will retire anyway I'd say (Bird)
Pomeroy (Inu)
Covell (Mills)
Cordoba (Meyers)

Keep:
Millington (2 year deal, for depth at the very least)
Bukuya (1 year deal, perhaps a NSW Cup contract if we've filled up the top squad)
Flanagan (1 or 2 years- I see him as Morris' replacement in 2011)
Williams (1-2 years on a small deal plus incentives- Can cover backrow and centre, strong defender, local junior, very much a key part of the club- if he keeps playing it should be with us)
Mannah (A must, like Milo. Experiences like his make people strong and inspire those around them. Plus if you want to see how he plays, just watch his brother Tim go around for the sqeels- and Jonny was/is the more talented of the two. Rest assured Parra will be after him too to replace Cayless)
Porter (We gave him a contract, lets keep him as depth. I expect Townsend to replace him in the top squad as the backup half in 2012)

If we get some of the blokes we/I want this off-season- Bird, Inu, Meyers, Mullaney- I hope our recruiting quietens down a bit for the next couple of years and we replace guys that will leave with juniors and blokes from within the squad. E.g. Perhaps Townsend for Smith in a couple of years time, Flano for Morris at the end of next year, O'Donnell for Tupou at the end of 2012, etc, and we try and keep the youth of the squad together.

Yes Millo deserves a contract remember he has only played thirty odd games in the top grade so he will improve big time I think . and as well as being on the bottom of the money he would probably be our lowest paid first grader at the moment .When you have cuthbo on 200 and wright 150 go figure that . sack cuthbo and give millo his money :borat

with the money we get from letting him go we can buy better players

This statement shows how much idea you have I'm afraid. Porter would be on a very small contract- near the minimum 55k a year. You couldn't replace him without paying more.

Am I missing something here.

But seriously why on earth would you let a good player like him go.

I'm interested on why that's all.

55k you can use purchasing some1 else

And where are you going to find a halfback better than Scott Porter with NRL experience for 55k?

You have to fill the squad. For example, you can't just release/not resign 5 players whose salaries add up to $300k and then sign Adam Blair. You would have to sign 5 players to fill the holes in your roster.

Scott Porter stays.

So does Mannah and Millington.

Hopefully Covell retires this year because I'm afraid he doesn't have a year of first grade left in him.

Barrett? If he doesn't retire I'd offer him a year. Does a lot more than some people on here give him credit for. With Tim Smith inside him I think we are only now starting to see what he is capable of.

The others. Some I haven't seen enough of to comment and some seem injury prone. I'll leave that up to the Sharks.
