Watching the 20's game that I tapped and here are my notes:

Tries
Stu Mills made an amazing run to set up the 1st try. He caught the ball and then stepped past two defenders, gave the big don't argue to another bloke and turned the burners on. He drew and passed the fullback to gift Duggan the first try

Penani Manu is great with the ball in hand. He always has the defense in 2 minds. He laid on a great pass for Coates barge over for the 2nd try. Coates carried 3 Cowboys defenders over the line and squeezed the ball through their legs for the try.

Manu with some more fancy footwork to set up Frizzel for a try. Manu stepped a few blokes before throwing an inside ball to Frizzel. Frizzel ran through the gap and over the top of the Cows' fullback to score.

Townsend throws a looooooong cutout pass to Richie Irwin who is playing centre for the injured Pickerd and he draws in the winger before dishing it out to Moroko for another try. Great awareness from Townsend.

A beautiful short grubber from Chad T to Tutauha sees us go over again. Townsend looked to pass out wide and then shaped back inside for a grubber that Tutauha was all over. Well worked set play.

And were in again. Townsend throws another beautiful cut out pass to Mills who streaks down the sideline. Mills looks inside and passes back to Townsend who then passes inside again to Malone to stroll over the line. 34-4 is the score by now and we have the game all wrapped up.

Cows score late tries to make the scoreline look respectable at 36-20.

Other player notes:

Peachey was very good as usual, bouncing off tackles coming from blokes 20kg's heavier than him time and time again. One thing I found very encouraging is that the commentator mentioned a few times during the call that Tyrone was very close to 'securing his future at the Sharks' and signing a new contract. Good news eh?
Tutauha is positionally poor at fullback.

Luke Pickers is rapid. Very quick on his feet. Went off 15 minutes in with what looks like a serious knee injury though.

Dan Moroko looks a good prospect on the wing. Strong ball runner, comes off his line with great physical tackling and goes looking for the ball early in sets. Quick off the mark too.

Rodney Coates played well up front. Good charges from him. Once his body matures a bit, he could be a 1st grade prop prospect.

Frazer Alcock (NZ U18 recruit) made his debut off the bench and he looks a great 2nd row prospect. Very aggressive defender, smashes the life outta the attacker in every tackle. Shows a good fend and offload too once given early ball. Very Greg Bird esque. One to look out for.

My 3-2-1 points for the game go to:

3 points: Chad Townsend

Quite possibly the best game I've seen him play. He had it all, defense, short and long kicking game, short and long passing. Everything he did was great. Superb prospect we have here for the #7 jersey.

2 points: Tyrone Peachey

Constantly bumping off tacklers and gaining the extra 5-7 metres each hitup just baffles me. He is an extraordinary talent. Defended well against blokes that were a lot bigger than him. That fend of his is strong for such a little bloke.

1 point: Penani Manu

Great footwork from Penani today. Ran the ball when he needed to and passed it off to Frizzel/Mills at the right time too. The defense had no idea on what to do when Penani had the ball.

Honourable Mentions: Frazer Alcock, Dylan Hill, Stewart Mills.

Townsend throws a looooooong cutout pass to Richie Irwin who is playing centre for the injured Pickerd and he draws in the winger before dishing it out to Moroko for another try. Great awareness from Townsend. Townsend throws an amazing left to right pass. And I don't even think he spirals it. He is turning into a great little halfback with his vision increasing every year. He appears to notice where the numbers are more than ever.

A beautiful short grubber from Chad T to Tutauha sees us go over again. Townsend looked to pass out wide and then shaped back inside for a grubber that Tutauha was all over. Well worked set play.

Tutauha is positionally poor at fullback. Pretty ordinary player really. Heap of mistakes in him. They should have kept Pickerd there.

Luke Pickers is rapid. Very quick on his feet. Went off 15 minutes in with what looks like a serious knee injury though. Tragic.

Dan Moroko looks a good prospect on the wing. Strong ball runner, comes off his line with great physical tackling and goes looking for the ball early in sets. Quick off the mark too. The only point I don't agree with mate. I thought he has been ordinary all year.

Rodney Coates played well up front. Good charges from him. Once his body matures a bit, he could be a 1st grade prop prospect. I think he is a definate first grade prospect. I have big wraps on this kid. Has a big motor and bends the line.

He def made an impact didnt he.

Just another thing on Mills. He is a good player but he won't be first grade material until he fixes his defence. He hits hard front on but it worried me to see him fall of alot of tackles when attackers ran lines outside his shoulders. He fell off badly. I'd also like to see him run as hard when he is coming out of his own end as he does when he is 10 metres out. Might get a taste on the wing sometime soon.

Mills was a bit disapointing in defense. Looked a little like Pomeroy. Good front on tackler, but lacks a bit of vision when they ran back line movements.

That was Moroko's first game of the year I believe?

2nd, he has looked the best prospect on the wing so far and if he doesn't get it permanently from now on it is absolute bullcrap

Really good to hear that Peachey is almost tied up. Let's hope that its a long contract. We need to keep him, Mills, Frizzel and Townsend from this year's crop.

Is Mills quick enough to play on the wing in first grade? He's looked pretty cumbersome to me when I've seen him this year.

I think he's like pom, not quick off the mark but gets going after about 20 metres but a winger needs acceleration.

I read these posts with interest as I see a few people seem to try to push the claims for individual players.

Here's my view on the 20's up to round seven this year.

1/ Callum Tatauha- very quick on his feet, can be suspect on the high ball, probably better at centre than fullback. Has Talent

2/ Joe Rocoko- not having a good year, is better than he is showing.

3/ Daniel Moroko- strong runner needs more game time to show what he can do, can get caught out on the wing in defence better centre than a wing

4/ Ali Hiljazi- strong winger good scramble defender, solid under the high ball

5/ Luke Pickard- good potential, needs a bit of size which he will get over the next few years, no use pushing him to quick will certainly go along way if he stays injury free

6/ Stewart Mills strong runner got all the skills just needs time to get back to full confidence from his past 2 years. Defence wise he will get better with time should make it

7/ Penani Manumalealii great player good with the ball needs more time in 20's but could be anything, hope he grows a little

8/ Chad Townsend great organiser very tactical footy player can be a little to structured would love to see him take on the line more. This will give him an X factor but he is pretty easy to read at the moument. This needs to change to go further

9 Rod Coates- going great for a kid his age give him time in the 20's and he will get a whole lot stronger a lot like Shillington when he was younger

10/ Dane Malone- tough hooker makes a **** load of tackles and is starting to scoot more. Gets the forwards rolling. great passing game good long balls that hit the market and get the ball wide fast, needs to grow but has got a heart bigger than his body, coaches love him.

11/ Sam Dugan solid footballer and will do anything asked of him he trains his ass off and deserves his chance good back up as he can play anywhere except the front row.

12/ Cam Rodgers has not showed much a bit pedestrian-falls off a lot of tackles

13/ Duncan Reilly if he was a good boy could be anything. Injury this year is hurting him great defender and tough as teak

14 /Teni Waipouri- starting to get fit and I hope he shows what he is capable off. His best game was against the cowboys.

15/ Tyson Frizell Great edge player getting stronger with each game and has started to time his hole running. A couple of more years and he will have learnt the game and will be 1st grade.

16/ Dylan Hill played well at the start of the year but needs to keep consistent strong in defence

17/ Tyrone Peachy- Boys he wants to play lock so he can hit the edges. All this talk on this sight about putting him at hooker is crap. You don’t lock up a free running player. His ability is on the edge when he is picking the runs against lazy forwards not covering the inside. No need to rush him he will grow his dad is 6,2. Will be a player of the future

18/ Richard Irwin Surprised me this year normally a centre but is a great backrow defender. Needs size but that will come.

19/ Fraser Alcock- will run into a brick wall if you ask him learning all the time. A bit raw still but could be moulded in to a descent player

20/ Tyrone Vigia needs to control his aggression but tough and I like that got another year in the 20's after this so will get benefit from this

21/ Rodney Mafoao needs to behave good bench player to support the pack

22/ Haydon Peacock seems to be burning out, probably injures taking their toll was a better player when he was younger

Bring back nesi as fullback. It looks like Tatuaha is out of position.

Moroko has played centre his whole life. needs time to get used to wing

Pickard injury cant be too bad. he was walking around after the game.

Townsend and penani are the perfect halves combo; townsend controls the structure and shape of team and penani is the spark that can create points

Mills is pretty damn quick. Just looks gumby when he's running.

I've been really really impressed with him this year. He could be a real quality 7 in the future.

Stewart Mills has that classic Cronulla look. Reminds me of my uncles. That sort of dodgy mid 70's beach boy with the porno mo look.
