Saturday, September 10, Sydney Football Stadium, 6pm.

Cronulla (3) v (6) Canterbury

Head To Head: Canterbury has won both meetings against Cronulla in 2011 – 30-26 in Round 15 and 48-16 in Round 23.

Cronulla - Form: The Sharks snapped a worrying three-game losing streak – all by big margins – to down Wests Tigers 26-10 on Saturday.

Why They Can Win: The chance to give a struggling club some much-needed September success is a massive motivation for the boys from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.

The Question Mark: Have the Sharks timed their run? They won seven games straight before falling in a hole near the finals as they gave up 48 points against Newcastle, 44 against Penrith and 42 against St George Illawarra.

Match Winner: Tyrone Peachey. Just like Uncle David, Tyrone has a happy knack of “turning up” exactly when he’s needed. The X-factor plays in jumper No.13 but it could be 6, 4, 1... anything really.

Canterbury - Form: After a five-game winning streak mid-season, the Dogs have won only four of their last 11. They needed a late surge to beat Canberra on Sunday.

Why They Can Win: Andy Patmore becomes the first Toyota Cup coach to 100 games this week. He knows Under 20’s football as well as anyone and will make sure his side is ready to go.

The Question Mark: Can their young halves get the job done in pressure games and against more experienced opposition? Jaline Graham and Moses Mbye played SG Ball earlier this season and have played only three Toyota Cup games each.

Match Winner: Dale Finucane. He captains the side from lock, having not missed a game for the last two years (along with good mate Josh Jackson). A work-a-holic who will take his team forward all game and came up with the crucial try against Canberra on Sunday.

NYC Sharks gaining confidence

NYC Sharks gaining confidence

Cronulla Sharks NYC coach James Shepherd remains confident his team can grab a win over the Bulldogs in their qualifying final on Saturday night, despite their recent woes.

Shepherd identifying confidence to be a key issue in maintaining consistency throughout the season for his side, believing they have enough to beat the Bulldogs.

“It’s a funny thing (confidence) because you have to produce your best when it matters, so what’s happened previously can give you confidence but you’ve got to do it on the day,” Shepherd said.

“For players such as Chad (Townsend) no doubt playing in the NRL can give you that confidence but it’s about turning up, being ready and doing it on that day.

“That’s where the pressure comes from, you’ve got to do it in that game on that day.

Confidence is one thing but handling the pressure of finals football is another and given the amount of tight games the Sharks have had this year, Shepherd believes his team are in good stead ahead of their first final.

“Winning tight games, it gives you confidence that you can win under tight circumstances, so again that is a mentality that we try to build and hopefully they can see that and have some success in the finals series,” Shepherd said.

While the Sharks haven’t been great of late, Shepherd hopes his side will get back up for the finals and isn’t bothered by the 48-16 hammering they received at the hands of the Bulldogs in round 23.

“It’s a long year and every team goes through their troubled times with injury and suspension and form,” Shepherd said of that match.

“Those factors come in to any season at any time and you just have to be able to overcome that and have the depth and have the desire in the group to keep performing your best”.

12 0 at ht. Good d by the dogs. Lots to do in the 2nd half.

are you watching the game,
from what I can tell, (for a toyota cup game typiccaly high scoring) that both teams are committed in defence and the standard of the game is very high

hey btw guys both the lowest ranked teams have lost so no matter what both teams will be playing again next week regardless win lose or drawer

Sharks start the 2nd half stong, and scored a try, 12-4 kick to come

wow sharks are really on their game now its now 12-8 ktc sharks scored again
