Cronulla Sharks Vs Auckland Vulcans
Henson Park, Saturday, August 27
Kick-off: 1.00pm
Referee: Jon Stone
Summary: Cronulla are making no secret of the fact they want second place on the NSW Cup ladder. Nathan Gardner, Nathan Stapleton and Ben Pomeroy have been included in their squad to tackle what would be a deflated Vulcans side after their 39-28 loss against the Bulldogs last weekend at The Crest Stadium. The Vulcans attacking ranks have been dealt a blow with the losses of Lewis Brown and Krisnan Inu who have been promoted into the Warriors line-up due an injury to Manu Vatuvei. Brown’s omission will more than likely see Glen ‘the flying fish’ Fisiiahi move into the centres and 18th man Johnny Aranga slot into fullback. 12 of Cronulla’s starting 13 have NRL experience and Coach Tony Herman will be hopeful he can keep this squad somewhat the same as they head into the Final Series. The match will be played as part of a double-header at Henson Park which sees all top-four teams take to the field.
Talking Point: How will the NRL final series affect the Sharks? – With Melbourne Storm all but guaranteed of the Minor Premiership and the Sharks NRL side unable to make the finals, how will this affect the Sharks NSW Cup tilt? Storm Coach Craig Bellamy will more than likely keep many of his fringe players on ice during the finals and players like Atelea Vea, Sione Kite and Adam Woolnough may not become available for the Sharks.
Prediction: The Sharks should snap up the win and second place on the ladder in the process. Sharks by 8.
