6/09/2011 3:12:37 PM

The NSW Cup Sharks will face the North Sydney Bears on Sunday afternoon starting at 3.00pm in a stand alone game to be played at Toyota Stadium.

The Sharks, who finished the regular season in third place, take on the sixth place Bears, who are the feeder club for South Sydney, in what is scheduled as the only finals game to be played in Sydney, in any grade, on Sunday.

The Sharks team this week features a number of players from the full-time NRL roster, with Isaac Gordon, Dean Collis, Ricky Leutele, Nathan Stapleton, Johnny Mannah, Stuart Flanagan and Brod Wright amongst those boasting a wealth of first grade experience.

Entry to Toyota Stadium on Sunday will be free to ticketed members and to children under 16. Othewise there is a $10 charge for adults and $5 for children and concessions (price includes a complimentary program while stocks last). A limited catering and bar service will be available.

It would be nice if they played the Sharks NYC and NSW Cup finals at the same ground on the same day...

Storm players to reinforce Sharks in Final - Melbourne Storm

Storm players to reinforce Sharks in Final
Anna Harrington
9/09/2011 12:40:18 PM

Cronulla could be reinforced with up to three Melbourne Storm players for this Sunday’s cut-throat NSW Cup final against North Sydney at Shark Park.

Sione Kite, Atelea Vea and Jack Afamasaga have all been named in a Sharks side looking to force their way through the early finals rounds.

Following last week’s patchy 36-20 win over Manly, coach Tony Herman will expect a far more consistent effort from his troops in a potential elimination final.

“Look, it’s always good to get back and win… we needed to win,” Herman said.

“At times we were very good but at times defensively we let ourselves down a little bit.

“We knew before the game it would make no difference to where we finished… so at times in the game we didn’t go on [with plays] where we should have… but it’s good to get a bit of momentum going into finals.”

With the Sharks finishing the regular season third after dropping multiple opportunities to secure the minor premiership, they will look to lift on the big stage.

“We’re at the stage where we need to lift if we’re going to challenge to get through,” Herman said.

“We’ll have a fair idea [of other results] by the times we play but our priority is to get a win and keep pressing.”

After letting through some cheap tries in recent weeks, Cronulla will look to focus on their efforts across the defensive line so as to regain attacking momentum.

“Defensively, we’ve let sides score a try and then score again… we need to arrest the momentum back so it doesn’t end up being 12 points [against us],” Herman said.

“We need to get back into the grind and get things working – the tide will turn for us if we make it turn.”

While Cronulla are yet to lose to the Bears this season, the effects of changes in personnel and the pressure of finals football means they cannot go into the match over-confident.

“They’re probably stronger this time around while we’re not as strong as last time,” Herman said.

“We beat them twice this year but this time it’s a whole new ball game.

“Without giving too much away we’ll look to keep playing the way we’ve normally been playing – just keeping bodies in motion.”

A danger man for the Sharks could be winger Curtis Johnston, whose devastating combinations with five-eighth Matt Mundine were largely contained by Melbourne’s Sisa Waqa in their previous encounter.

“Johnston’s very, very good in the air and that’s where Sisa [Waqa] was very good for us last time,” Herman said.

“Mundine’s left kick to Johnston is one of their pet plays so we’ll need to work to shut them down… it’s their go-to play.”

While all of the Storm trio were required for NRL duties last week, their potential presence in the forward pack could prove crucial in determining the outcome of the match.

“We’re down on troops… obviously last time Sione was good for us so we’d love to have him back,” Herman said.

“All three played very well last time… so [they’ll] be important for us.”

Despite missing out on a prized top-two finish, across the season the Sharks proved to be one of the most dangerous sides in the competition and will simply work to maintain a consistent run of good form across the next month.

“We just need to keep winning – it’s four weeks and it’s four exciting weeks but we just need to keep winning and hopefully make it to the big one – that’s our aim,” Herman said.

“There’s a long way to go… [but] if we keep winning, whatever else happens around us doesn’t matter.

“If we can keep winning, anything can happen.”

The final against the Bears kicks off this Sunday at 3pm at Shark Park, with entry free to all Sharks and Storm members.

Yep ear plugs are a must, if we loose we can't get eliminated with the Tigers already gone, and wenty loosing to newtown yesterday.

How it will work, providing Auckland win 2day

If we win:

We play Wentworthville at Leichhardt Oval next Sunday

If we loose:

We play Newtown at Leichhardt Oval next Sunday

If Central Coast beat Auckland

If we win:

we get the week off

If we loose:

we play Central Coast at Leichhardt - i think.
