BLOEM LOOKS FORWARD TO OFFICIATING NORDIC CUP

Former Super League player, South African international and now rapidly emerging and respected referee Jamie Bloem will head out to Sweden on Friday to take charge of the Nordic Cup clash between the hosts and Norway.
The match will take place at Spartacus Rugby Club in Gothenburg at 1pm on Saturday with Sweden’s 20 man squad led by centre Martin Jonsson, in the country’s first full international.
Looking ahead to the occasion Bloem – who is also a BBC summariser - said, “I am extremely proud to take up this opportunity in Sweden, it is a milestone in my fledgling refereeing career.”
“I have played for and against countries that are still emerging in regards to rugby league and feel that such experience can help me be more sympathetic towards the game.”
He added, “I know this is not Australia versus England in the Four Nations which is also staged this weekend but for the players pulling on the shirts of their respective nations - and for me - the pride and emotion will be just as great.”
Norway Rugby League Chief Executive Warren Heilig is also relishing the latest international challenge for the ‘Vikingen’.
“We are really gearing up well for this match against the old enemy Sweden,” he noted. “We are coming with near totally different side to the one that took on Malta in the European Bowl this year but we are giving some new guys the chance to represent their country.”
“We are unsure of what to expect against an unknown opponent but nevertheless we have a whole team of players that play in the domestic competition here in Norway and all are rugby league players first and foremost.”
