Looks like we have just picked up another promising five-eighth.

Outstanding young Orara Valley five-eighth Nick Read has been picked up by the Cronulla Sharks.

Read was spotted when trialling for the Sydney Roosters earlier this year.

He will turn out for the Sharks in the Toyota Cup under-20s competition this weekend.

The Kiwi-born back was a star performer in last year’s grand final and is a big loss for the Orara club.

Nick Read will not be playing for us anymore. CRL asked Sharks to pay them just under $4,000 for development fees, Sharks said no and sent Nick Read packing back to the country. Disappointing for him, there goes his break.

Read’s setback
Promising five-eighth Nic Read is on his way back to Orara Valley after Cronulla refused to pay a ridiculous NSW Country Rugby league transfer fee of $3800.

Read has every right to be disillusioned with the game’s hierarchy after being signed by the Sharks and moving to Sydney only to find that the transfer fee had to be paid so he could be cleared to play for his new club.

The Sharks said no and Read is on his way home.

Orara Valley actually said they didn't care if they waived the development fee. But the CRL wouldn't budge.
