I think it's pretty common for a player in his situation to have a 'second year syndrome' . The support he gets now will be critical you'd think.

You'd question how much of that he gets at home... Fitz might need to be Dad here. Bennett would be.

I think to blame the Origin fiasco for Nicho’s downturn in form is false and rough on Nicho’s mental fortitude.

The truth of the matter is in the lead up to Origin one we faced the Roosters, Bulldogs, Cowboys, Dolphins, Manly and Newcastle. Some pretty inept sides now and / or at the time. We went 5-1 over that stretch.

Post that we went Brisbane, Melbourne before we went to go on an flog the Dragons, Bulldogs and Tigers.

The clear common denominator here for me is no different to any other team with a star half - they can’t do much when their forward pack is being belted. Look at Melbourne on the weekend.

For the most part our middles are playing like dross and it drastically impacts the time Nicho has the ball. Rightly or wrongly our attack centres round Nicho and when we can’t afford him time to ball play we are incapable of a plan B.

If you want an example of the two sides of this, see: first 65mins vs Manly, and the final 15mins vs Manly. Looking like one of the worst players on the park to the absolute best. Difference? Possession and forwards making an impact.

Yeah we looked nervous in the first half

Forwards are really bad at the moment

With our halves Hynes/Tricky they just need to do their thing not think too much and trust each other. They are both creative, both can run well both can kick.. we will be fine

It looked very deliberate and process like on the weekend (the plays) regardless of what was on but once they let go a bit it was better

100% agree. That last 20 flattered us. They had played without Paseka all game and just lost Aloiai and Jurbo to a HIA. Down all 3 of their starting middles, with the rest exhausted, there's no wonder we made a run at the end.

I legitimately misread that as 'with the ref exhausted' at first glance haha

You have to throw in there that Manly had their two starting props missing through the second half and took the foot off the gas due to having an insumountable lead. I don't think we see that comeback against a Penrith or Cowboys in a similar situation.

That's a good point about that 5-1 period... I'd also throw in that having a relatively soft run probably made a few of our forwards have soft preps for hard games.

The part about the forwards is 100% the correct way of looking into it. Nichos been a bit hit and miss in attack but really, with the platform laid, hes not always workin with the best momentum either.

Id like to see some variety to his last tackld options. The short side kick is getting stale, most the time he barely gets under it and the chases are a good 15m off the reciever when he gets it, even though it wasnt a longer kick.

I think if he was playing off the back of some better set up work by his middles he looks a Dally M winner again.

People criticising Nicho and not our forwards dont watch games, they look at results

Has received one vote in the last six weeks of 'SF Player of the Year' voting.

That just goes to show how badly out of form he is. Not what you want from your superstar halfback.
