Former international forward David Gillespie has joined the Sharks coaching staff and will assist current coaches during the pre-season and throughout the upcoming year.

Gillespie had been a part of Ricky Stuart's coaching team at the Roosters and will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Sharks training sessions.

Nicknamed 'Cement', Gillespie was a member of premiership winning teams at the Bulldogs and was known as one of the most punishing defenders of his era. He joins Shane Flanagan, Jim Dymock, Craig Wilson, Mitch Healy and Tony Herman on the Sharks coaching staff for 2007.

Yeah I am not sure how much he is on, but still it adds depth to our coaching squad and we need work on our defense

Awesome! That is fantastic news Dutchie, I knew Cement was on Ricky's coaching staff at the Roosters but had assumed he was tied to them for next season as well. He is the hardest tackler I have ever seen and that includes blokes like Steve Folkes, Dean Lance, and Trevor Gillmeister, in fact i think he was voted "most hurtful player in the game" in the RLW players poll for something like 5yrs in a row! Hopefully he can use his expertise to mould our pack into a fearsome defensive unit, and give us a battle-hardened edge we have lacked since the days of big Bundy Davidson.

if cement cant add a bit of starch to our defence, than noone can. he was a real hitman when he played, so i think this is a good signing for our coaching staff. good to know that jim dymock is there as well. he could add a whole new dimension to our attack if he can spend a bit of time with the playmakers.i'd even throw gallen in there as well, he could really teach gallen a thing or two about handling the ball.imagine gallen with the ball skills of dymock or gavin miller. he would be the complete player.

I think our coaching stuff can really bolster not only our roster but also our skills. I could not be more keener about a season coming.

I am interested to see though what Ricky and his staff bring to us for next year, I mean they are well publicised as training harder etc, but what will the game plan be like.

Will it be a recycled roosters one or will they be bringing completely new plans etc???

i'm hoping it isn't just an old roosters plan, because the chooks could pick up on it and use it against us. i think that stuart is smart enough to create a new plan.

hope it is new stuff because we don't have brad fitler playing for us. at least our defence will get better, because ricky is big on good defense. then again, it's no good keeping all our opponents to twelve points or lower per game, if we only score two points per game.

I'd really like to see a new type of play something they invent and really work on.

Therefore no other team is ready for it and they struggle to combat it.

I suppose it means lots of video tape watching in the offseason.

Cement on the coaching roster:D I had a little heart flutter when I read that. One of the best pound for pound defenders the game has produced. I'm getting quietly excited here:eek:
