Do the NRL and/or clubs do out of competition random drug testing?

You would think that Post Mad Monday celebrations or returning from overseas holidays would be prime periods for testing.

I also suppose the players would make themselves hard to locate in the first place.

Testing players as soon as they return from overseas is as bad as putting speed cameras at the bottom of hills as far as I am concerned.

i lived in Newy 2008-2010. This news article doesn't surprise me at all. I dare say though, now this has been aired in public, there will be severe repercussions within the club. I reckon some of their older fans will be ****ing livid at these "revelations". Hardly revelations to anyone who's been out in public past midnight though.

Its hardly a relevation at all. I know a handful of current and former Knights (from the 2008 onwards era) personally, and i also know first hand what the team get up to, as do the majority of the night club fiends of Newcastle. Fannys is swarming with Knights players, in fact, youd probably spot Andrew Johns in there still from time to time grinding his teeth like a madman.

Newcastle has a HUGE drug culture, and its not uncommon to see Knights players out at the bigger clubs either. But saying that, Im sure theres bikkie eaters in all clubs, Sharks included. I bet when guys like Seymour were being booted from Shire night clubs they werent just drunk. But thats all speculation.

Im not into all the party drugs n ****, but lets look realistically here, Ecstacy doesnt have long term affects (unless heavily abused) unlike Weed or something. Its not an addictive drug like Coke or the Horse. Its a party drug, which these guys take to 'party'. Its a lame culture in itself, but provided they dont have to train or play the next day, there performance shouldnt drop because of it. But still, they are professionals with the world in the palm of their hands and they cant make simple choices to stay straight to better their short careers.

But to see Gids name in there brings a smile to my face.

oh yeah i definately agree they are **** house.

but how can anyone say that they decrease your ability to go about your daily duties 3 or 4 days after youve dumped? They release from your system fast. Hence the sweat session the next day.

Im not saying they arent bad for you, but taking a pill at a nightclub on a saturday night, is alot different to shooting the horse on a wednesday morning

The come down period can last 3 days or so. They drain the body of hormones (namely serotonin) and can leave the user feeling depleted and down for a couple of days. It's different reaction to alcohol, but it still effects performance (negatively).

And if you keep taking them soon enough your body finds it hard to naturally regulate your mood. Then can lead to a form of dependence on them. I know this because I watched a mate go down this road and he ended up killing himself.

did ya read my post fully mate? or pick the points you want to argue?

I said unless heavily abused. Ive dabbled in the bikkies. 1 or 2 a night every few months or so for the last 8 years. never again, but unless your a friday night regular at every night spot just dumping yourself into oblivion you arent going to mess yourself right up on them. Those who do it week in week out, even backing it up night after night, they are looking for trouble, just the same as if they were on the grog bongs or needles

I know someone who tried one bic, and died.

I know someone whos done it every weekend for the last 10 years and hasnt.

The biggest problem with any chemical drug is that we dont know where they are made or whats really in them, and you arent exactly about to trust any dealer or drug bakers word are you. Also every persons brain and body is different and will react to such chemicals differently.

Anyhow....

Whether they are bad or not is irrelevant. They are a banned substance and the usual media reaction to drugs is hysteria (rightly or wrongly). I can’t for the life of me understand why this has been so quiet, considering it was given as evidence in a court. Brett Seymour stumbling down Cronulla Mall with a grin on his face received more attention than this.
