THE Central Comets will mean business once again in 2011 – if some of their new signings are anything to go by.

Comets coach Wayne Barnett has announced a host of newcomers to the club for next year’s Intrust Super Cup, including a couple of big boppers.

Impressive New Zealand product Daniel Palavi, who will play for the Warriors in tomorrow’s Toyota Cup under-20s grand final against South Sydney, will bolster the Comets’ forward ranks.

Fellow up-and-coming forward recruits John Clayton (Balmain) and Ben Faulkner (Broncos) will also add some valuable size to Barnett’s roster.

The Comets this week also signed talented halfback Jonathan Tavinor from NSW club Erina.

“He’s a player I’ve been looking at for a couple of years now and he’s finally decided to come up (to CQ),” Barnett said of the former Cronulla lower grader and NZ Maoris representative.

Former NRL player Luke Dyer will also call Rockhampton home in 2011 after signing from English Super League club Celtic Crusaders, while a former crowd favourite could also be back in a Comets jersey next season.

Barnett confirmed playmaker Nat Bowman was close to making a decision on a return to Browne Park in 2011.

The 2008 Queensland Cup best and fairest player, who won a premiership with Townsville Brothers this year, was a key member of the Comets’ 2009 finals assault.

Bowman dominated this year’s Townsville competition, earning North Queensland and ultimately Queensland Rangers selection.

“I spoke to Nat again this week and he’s getting back to us in the next week,” Barnett said.

The Comets launch their 2011 campaign when the squad begins pre-season training on November 7.
