Most major sporting clubs around the world seem to operate with a private ownership model. Unfortunately I think it's only a matter of time before all NRL clubs are the same.:(

Tinkler seems like an arrogant wanker to me. I'd say no.

The good thing about having an arrogant wanker in charge is that they generally don't like to lose.

if tinkler was a sharks supporter & his proposal was to help the sharks would you guys be in favour or agaisnt it? i think i would be in favour cause besides the security of debts paid of and knowing you will have atleast 10 million for the next ten years. crowe and holmes court have seemed to have a postive effect on souths on field performance.

Well TBH I am not sure as I posted above until the next TV deal came through I would want to sit tight I think, if tinks wants to be part of the club why is he putting a time line on it?

When I win power ball and buy the sharks, I'm going to have Greg Pierce as CEO, Gav Miller as recruitment Officer, event coordinate live bands on shark park in the off season, have bikini clad waitresses in the leagues club. Change the grounds back to Endeavour Field, put in the Luke Massey stand and, Oh yeah, get Birdy back.

A gold statue of ET at the gate would be a nice gesture, if its not too much to ask.

As much as i hate Souths being privatised i think it's the way NRL clubs will be managed in the future but i voted against Souths becoming 75% privatised in 2006 & if the same vote was held tomorrow i would vote the same way.

For me personally i think any good that the current management does is far outweighed by the simple fact that we have sold out to gain success.

I'll be honest here - if someone like Tinkler came along to buy the Sharks and effectively guarantee our existence and pump money into the club, I would be falling over my own feet to go support the deal.

I believe in the power of a club owned by the members, but the fact is that privatisation is going to become more and more of a factor in the game as we go forward, especially if News Ltd start losing some of their control - I can see their clubs going for sale. It's simple economics - paritcularly with the pokie machine laws, it's gonna be much harder for the leagues club to raise the kind of money necessary to stay afloat.

If it wasn't for the land development, I'd be seriously worried about our future.

In some ways I guess, it depends on what you're used to. The U.S. has a history of private ownership, so the sporting public are used to it and accept it. There are good owners and not so good owners.
I can certainly understand the suspicion of millionaire owners from some elements. Hell, I am one of those elements! :glasses-cool:

I've suffered under the yoke of Undead Al Davis and the cheapness/draft decisions while under the influence of Patron Silver of the Maloof brothers.

When you have to deal with them as a fan (and I'm only slightly less obsessive a Raiders/Kings fan as I am of the Sharks) you don't fear any potential overlords cause they can't be worse.

it's just been confirmed on fox sports news by the newcastle media manager that they have on principle accepted the offer.

Excuse my ignorance but is it because the club is no longer owned by the members but by a sole entity?

What has been the major change?

The only reason I ask is because I would of thought the fans would be happy with whats happening over there.
