I do wonder where they’d be at if they didn’t have such a good line of talent from UK (maybe to Ricky’s credit, I’m not sure)
That line of talent is also an inferior competition and “better” players have come from the UK and failed - I’m thinking of that Warriors Tompkins fella.

Canberra is deff afforded that import luxury due to the similar shitty weather, but in the same breathe Canberra isn’t really the place glorified stars sign.

I know he played rep footy and is now getting old. But i though peak Kyle feldt (cows) was awesome especially when he first started those kick off.

Yeah good shout, I reckon he’s been quite underrated

That’s a lot of talent, but they’re all honest hard workers with a bit of go. No real x-factors bedsides Papali’i.

They’re much like us before we got Nicho, and still are to an extent… no superstars, just a well rounded football team…

Ricky knows what he is doing and results speak for themselves. We can’t beat them lol.
That team isn’t really anything like ours ? They were stacked

Most of them were top 5 players in their positions ;
John Bateman
Joseph Tapnie
Jack Wighton
Elliot Whitehead
Josh Hogdson
Josh Pappali
Jordan Rapana
Nick Cotric
Charnze Nicol-Klokstad

That team would spank us 9 times out of 10

Nick Cotric for me is one very over rated player

I think there's a few more parallels than you think. Tapine/Papalii, Hodgson and Bateman particularly stand out as guys that were a class above that year, but talent wise I think we are fairly similar.

Where they separate way above our team, is Canberra just have that dog in them. Particularly that side. They were red lining all game every game just being the most competitive ****s ever. As a whole we don't seem to have that level of desire.

You arguing against yourself now mate haha
Yeah, na. Joey L was actually a good player to help my point. He was a beast inside Rapana on that edge. Went from being a troublesome X factor that couldn’t keep his **** together to being a Dally M centre of the year at the raiders.

He wasn’t really a world beater before the raiders, just a **** load of potential and a bad attitude.

The fact Ricky got the best out of him says a lot…. It’s probably about the extent of the raiders ability to attract “star” players to too.

its very rare they go out and buy star players. When I think of raiders buying players I think Orford, Ferguson, Rapana… again.

A lot of their good players all come thru the ranks, or they snag them early in their career, ala Tapine. The rest come from super league untested in the NRL.

Yeah but you said they had no real x factor to then saying they did haha. Had a good couple of years down there for sure did BJ.

I see how that comes across as blatantly contradictory lol.

Prob should have skipped the X factor part and just went with what I wrote after it.

No doubt he had the ability, but Joey’s attitude kinda negated all that. Ricky took a massive risk signing him and it paid off. Not sure many other coaches could do the same had they signed him.

Didn’t he what. Him and Rapana handed out spankings weekly.

Might be out of necessity too thou.

Sticky has missed out on a lot of “stars” who didn’t want to go there.
So the alternative is to breed your own.

I’ll agree to disagree …

I think that team especially those players run riot over the like for like player we have in our team.

Hodgson would make Brailey look like a kid
Tapine and Papili would run over Rudolph and Uele for fun
Bateman back then over Nikora but it’s close
Charnz much more consistent then Will
Whitehead over Wilton
Cotric and Rapana back then over our wingers

Our only one consistently elite forward is Nikora and to a lesser extent of elite is McInnes.. the rest of our team go in and out of form too much.

the Sharks players need to perform against top teams more often before we give them big wraps

Oh I agree with that, I'm just saying that it was more the team attitude than talent. I agree that Hodgson and the props were way above what we have though.

Seems like a good moment to double down on Reece Walsh here. Without Reynolds he turned back in to his Warriors self last night against a borderline Q Cup team. Had a few positive plays but was an error and penalty machine all night.

Good player who could be great one day. Not great yet. Media talks him up like he’s Dally fkn Messenger.

I shouldn’t have captained him in draft, I get it

Yeah he needs to mature with his decision making, he is too often going for the big play on tackle 1.
