I was not happy about this new stand being named the Monty Porter stand. It should have been the Paul Gallen Stand in about 10 years time. Monty Porter has a medal. Gallen has played hundreds of games for us, could have left for more money, Captain of NSW and has played for Australia.... not to mention has lead us through some really tough times at the club. Poor decision.

theyll just build one for Gal...it will be the greatest granstand ever but theyll probably build it so it somehow blocks the main entrances and closes one lane of captain cook drive

this is awesome

There's a few additions to the stands when the development starts, maybe there is a spot for his name in there somewhere.

Thank goodness they didn't **** it up and accidentally write Scott instead of Monty

Gotta admit, the lawns around Sharks stadium are looking mighty tidy indeed

I support this - If you don't, you better be close to my age or construct an argument for a better candidate

I wasn't aware that the stand was named in Monty's honour until his grandkids came over to where I was sitting to watch NSW Cup and get a photo of themselves with their grandad's name atop the stand in the background.

I choked up... here were these kids as old as my own lovingly remembering the greatness of their grandad and cherishing the fact that his memory would live on.

I had the pleasure of knowing Monty for most of my life. A greater and truer Sharks man it would be exceptionally difficult to find.

His words of encouragement to young players taking their first steps under the wing of black, white & blue was the stuff of a great and inspirational leader.

A great club-man - without Monty, there would be no Cronulla Sharks.

Not exactly sure what the rush to name the stand was.

Monty Porter is a good candidate, but if Gallen gets through this drug scandal unscathed I reckon he'd have been a better candidate.

They probably wanted to hurry up and name the stand after him before the new generation had their say with their current biases.

Looks like they got it named just in the nick of time to be honest.

We don't need memorials for Gallen while he is still playing.

Foolish to name any facility after a current player.

Imagine if the Stand was named after Gal and then he goes to another Club for a year or two when he is in the NRL departure lounge.

It happens.

David Peachey anyone?

Yeah for sure. You have to wait 10 years until he is completely retired.

Yeah i think the Sharks should have made a bigger deal about it, The sharks did a great job promoting the "RIVALRY" game and got a massive crowd

But didn't realise it was named untill we saw his son Michael making a speech on the ground before the 1st grade game.
