Michael Speechley was the match-winner for Cronulla against Parramatta in April 1987, despite being heavily concussed in the first half.
He begged not to be replaced, though he was left with a monster headache for days.
From RLW: "It was Speechley who started and was heavily involved in the Sharks' 10-minute passage of brilliance where they ran in four tries to leave Parramatta floundering."
Speechley had established himself as the Sharks' five-eighth in the first seven matches of 1987, after being signed by Jack Gibson.
Speechley said on his signing: "Jack called me one day and said 'I heard you can tackle, would you like to play for us?' I said 'yes' straight away and signed the contract the same day.
"The man is a genius. Everything he tells you, you learn from. He told me to concentrate on what I do best and the rest will follow."
