Eldrick Lee , would be one ahead.
Take your pick from the rest

WING
Zac Cini, Christian Crichton, Tevita Funa, Tyrone Harding, Matt Ikuvalu, Edrick Lee, Michael Oldfield, Jonus Pearson, Jordan Pereira, Jorge Taufua

None of those jump out as must have over Hiroti. Edrick hasn't been on the field consistently since he left us.
Like others have said, he is a depth signing for 1 year. They can't all be weapons.

He a pretty good size, doesn't look 187cm. Glad we resigned, all good, could be a touch faster but is generally ok as a back up.

Not sure why I am taking my pick from your top 100 rising star wingers, you haven't really quantified why any of them are better choices than Hiroti either

Eldrich Lee - has played 0 games this season after a foot injury, is 29 in a couple weeks. He's the first name that comes to mind as the next big thing we should be chasing?
Zac Cini - a 21 year old who has managed 3 games for the 13th placed NRL team, one being off the bench, still he has looked decent in reserve grade and limited chances, one of probably two suggestions you've made that actually can argue would be a young signing that could be better than Hiroti
Christian Crichton - 25 with 33 games to his name, including most recent 13 over the past three years for the Dogs, must be a true generational talent
Tevita Funa - how'd he go at fullback round 23? Manly won, I didn't watch it, think he's gone okay in the nrl
Tyrone Harding - who is this? do you even know? dropped by dogs and signed lower grades for eels by the look of things. How did we miss on him!
Matt Ikuvalu - Will be paid more than Hiroti and likely kept by Roosters (or at least, if he went elsewhere he'd be paid more)
Michael Oldfield - another rising star of the nrl, could be anything over the next couple of years, even retired
Jonus Pearson - a 26 year old with 23 nrl games, one of them is even this year!
Jordan Pereira - old AF too at 28 but he's a ****ing bastard to tackle, some young Dragons jumping him this year, not as versatile as Hiroti
Jorge Taufua - 29 with attitude problems and supposedly Dragons waving around 500k or so to sign him, certainly hope we didn't pay Hiroti close to that

Maybe that list not full of rising stars. ( that was wingers off contract )
But you have to admit any young ones from the Top Clubs normally progress REALLY well
I just can't see what Hiroti's best attribute is , can you name it ?

As you mentioned other clubs used very good journeyman
YOUR MENTIONED
Are Chris Lewis, Brenko Lee, Lumelume, Johns, Jacks, Eisenhuth, Booth, King, Moeroa and Smoothy all rising stars?
Are Keighran, Copley, Hutchison, Lam, DSF all rising stars?

Eldrick Lee for one was going GREAT at Raiders , Sharks and Knights before injury.
Lightning fast , tall , experienced , cheap and still young young at 28
For me , would have been a GREAT pick up instead of Hiroti for a year or two .

Sorta agree on the cedric Angle, thought he was very good for us. But... wonder how the Knights would be feeling, he doesn't seem to have been on the field much for them. Cld continue with us or whoever, with a similar poor strike rate. .

The ones they keep do well, or the ones you pay a decent bit extra to poach do well (some of the times, many examples of those who don't exist also)

I don't think 'Eldrick' Lee was going great at Raiders was he? Wasn't he a complete dick fingers they couldn't wait to see the back of? We got him going decent and then let him leave to knights where he has been injured a bunch including no NRL games this year (25 out of like 68 games).
People at the club likely familiar with him and yet we have chosen not to chase his signature. All that info should be enough to justify why someone the club is currently obviously fairly happy with (Hiroti) should be re-signed ahead of him.
Unwanted broken old former dick fingers doesn't strike me as a GREAT signing at all.

Why does Hiroti have to have some kind of elite attribute to be worth a deep squad spot? He is solid in a lot of areas and can cover centre or wing and already knows our players. Why sign timmy nobody from Storms feeder system because he has elite talls or can run fast but sucks in other areas just to hope he gets better.
The same complaint about Ronnie recently, "what is he elite at"?
Isn't it enough that some players can just be generally good? Not everyone is an elite player, not everyone has to be the best in the nrl at something (often with weakness in other areas). Especially not when they are signed as cheap backups.
We certainly shouldn't be signing people just because they are young and have a loose affiliation (but not signed to) a good team or because they were a solid first grader for us four years ago.

You seem to want to use the squad spots outside the 21 for hope - hope he becomes something, hope he gets over his three years of struggling for games, hope he becomes the next best thing. We've used 27 players this season, and Hiroti has been one of them going on 14 times out of 24.
The club knows he can do the depth job for us.
If you run in to any of them please ask Fitz Mooney Hannay why we have re-signed Hiroti when we could have had Edrick Lee

Think this is for Suli mate

You're right, I confused the two of them into one, Suli quite a bit younger I think
Still, Taufua no nrl games this season I don't think screams out as a must have or really makes a particularly good case to be a better option than Hiroti

Good reply again Bort .
Logic pretty sound and if Hiroti shows some ability in the next 12 months , I will be the first to admit I got it wrong again ( owned up to Will Kennedy and acknowledged Pele defence needs LOTS of work )
I suppose if next year we lost Katoa or Ronnie one game out from a major game , Eldrick for me would be the better replacement.
Hope Hiroto goes well instead and I eat humble pie if we revisit this page .

Good signing for depth. I see him developing into a Mitch Aubbuson style player where centre or second row are actually his better positions longer term and occasional wing when needed
Handy type of player to have in your roster.

Just heard him talk for the first time. How old is he?

Imagine heckling him as he walked off the field and he turns around “‘scuse me mate”…. “Sorry”

Hahaha

He’s only 22

Maybe his voice is his strongest attribute?

Send him in a time machine to the beginning of any world war:

"Just chill guys".

Problem solved.

he is depth behind katoa, ronnie and prob tracey now as well, people don't need to get bent out of shape over him staying on in our squad. if your depth player had a bunch of amazing attributes or upside then they probs wouldn't be depth to begin with and would already be starting although I appreciate some clubs are stacked with talent even into their depth, players that good will either be on too much cash to be value in your depth or will soon move onto a FG opportunity at another club barring some succession planning for the really young kids

Hiroti is in that sweet spot of being average enough to accept being depth on a cheapie contract without threat of being poached by another club while not being average enough to legit cost you games when his services are called upon. he is already familiar with the club and squad it makes sense. if he improves further then it's a bonus for everyone

would prob play him in the centres over chambers truth be told
