It was hard to keep track with all the player changes and with all the play being up the other end, but my main thoughts were:
- Dugan and Holmes looked the best
- Halves looked a bit clunky like last year, including the block plays out the left to Feki, and some of the midfield kicks. Lots of repeat sets though. Not overwhelmed by Moylan yet
- Katoa was in the starting team on right wing. Gray was in the stands. Late in the game Dugan and Katoa switched to the left. Katoa’s “try” looked slick, looked a bit nervous under a bomb
- the last quarter was just Wigan attacking and getting the ball given back to them, as they had had so little ball the rest of the game. Their only try came from a kick during this time
- Leutele and Prior look ready for better seasons. Fifita looks like he needs match fitness and had forearm strapped. Paulo looked fitter than I remember
- not much point rating forwards though as the scrimmage makes them fairly useless
- didn’t notice any of the backup halves and hookers much, but play was far away

He's class no doubt. Hope he sorts out some kind of kicking game though because we really need another kicker, especially when Chad runs the ball and gets tackled on the 5th like he did in a set tonight.

I’ve gotta say... DO NOT agree.
This guy needs tons of work to make it as a top line half.

In his defence, his support in Townsend is nowhere near a world beater. I didn’t and can’t see them working.

Good player but not a 5/8th with old mate Townsend running the show.

Coming to that conclusion after 80 minutes? Jesus

Sorry mate, agree Townsend needs to add some polish at the end of sets , but not on Moylan.

He looks likely with every touch, put his body on the line , and unlike his predecessor , did not give away penalties .

To my eye , he looks well and truly at home in the front line , and also looked likewise in an origin appearance in the 6.

Moylan is the least of our problems.

Yup - one of the last players I would be pointing the finger at last night, his defense and overall attitude was impressive as well. Moylan is there to back himself and create but he can only do so much when on the back foot for most of the game thanks to the spaz's around him.

Our set plays have always been sorta clunky - Flanno needs a player like Moylan in there to ad lib a bit, especially with a spine around him that isn't offering alot itself at this stage. Alot rests on Mozza's shoudlers but he looks up for it.

Maloney took some time to get going for us in 2016 and would have let 3 try's in last night...

We won't be a serious threat until he plays fullback.

Moylan isn’t being played right, he’s not a stand and pass 5/8. He needs the ball when we have momentum so he can work his magic.

The mentality of we need to play Dugan at fullback so he touches the ball more is idiotic. We moved Holmes from there tonight and then he never saw the ball tonight aside from kick returns.

We need a link, ball playing fullback that will stretch the ball both sides of the field. Until we move Moylan there, our attack will continue to be clunky and predictable, and our best players will still fail to see quality ball irrespective of where they play.

We got to wait until Kyle is back and hope he kills it

There's no reason why Hodkinson can't fill that void.

Matt John's just said it's difficult because they both play the same way. I'll give you the red hot tip, all halfbacks play the same way. It's the same carbon copy across all teams.

For our particular structure, we need good solid halves and our fullback is essentially our difference.

Did Hodkinson even play today?

Anyways, I'm happy with Moylan in the halves. His try assist showed he has the vision. His short kicking game is also going to get good.

Yet how would that change at all with him playing fullback? Other than giving us a third option rather than two.

Kyle, Hodko... why even discuss them we have our halves gents

2 'solid halves' would be a disaster for us, our fullback would get played outta the game I don't care who he is

Carney, Maloney made significant differences to our point scoring ability and became our specialist 5/8's while turning us into serious competition - now it's Moylan's turn

Fmd the bloke tackled his ass of all night on bigger bodies, threw a nice pass to Feki and poked his head through the line multiple times. Give him more time and Flanno the chance to adjust his structures a bit around him (IF Flange can do that...)

Our halves and fullback wern't the problem tonight, in fact they were excellent in the first 40 and part of the reason we had our lead

You been drinking the bong water again?

In no universe would two solid halves ever phase out a fullback. Do you understand how an attacking structure works?
