PANTHERS enforcer Luke Lewis is poised to walk away from the Panthers and join Cronulla in 2009.
Sharks chief executive Tony Zappia last night confirmed the shire outfit was interested in luring the Australian born center after his Penrith contract expires.
Lewis, 24, wants to sign a long-term deal and his close-knit relationship with Sharks coach Ricky Stuart is expected to deliver him to Cronulla.
"[Panthers chief executive] Glenn Matthews told me Lewis was coming to our club over breakfast this morning," Zappia said.
"I caught up with him about it in all seriousness and his really keen to start fresh at the shire".
"Obviously we would be interested in getting his signiture, he's a former Origin star".
The Sharks have several key players missing from their 2008 roster with young gun star backrower Reece Williams [knee] gone for the season, Ben Ross facing seven weeks for his elbow on storm halfback Cooper Cronk, Paul Gallen facing 3-4 weeks for an eledged facial on Titans workhorse Anthony Lafranki.
Matthews said the 2003 premiers were intent on keeping Lewis and Rooney earlier on in the season.
But the Penrith outfit faces an uphill assignment to squeeze both players in their roster because of salary cap pressure.
