I am having a discussion about our juniors and who is classed as one?

The ones from the top of my head:

Chad
Brailey
Xerri
Tracey
Flanno JR

Where do the likes of:
Trindall
Katoa
Ronnie
Jesse (came to sharks from
Manly )
WK
Nikora

I would say those who grew up in the area are a local junior.

I think you can still be a sharks junior without being a local junior... if you come in your teens and play in the junior rep sides for Cronulla, if a lot of your development happens under the Cronulla and local area systems, it's hard to argue that you aren't a Cronulla junior.

Think Ramien came at like 20 and mostly played NYC for Manly? Can't count him. But Ronnie came down from Qld at like 16 or something and all his opportunities have been through us so I'd say maybe you can count him?

Burg might have a good answer

It's pretty tough to have a true local junior in Sydney with so many teams and the proximity to other clubs.

Katoa was an Eels junior but spent two years, maybe 3 in our NYC team.

Brailey came through our junior system.

Ronaldo we picked up at 17.

WK came through our system, atleast played SG Ball I believe.

I personally classify our juniors if you've spent time in our Flegg system for a while, and defn if you played SG Ball, Harold Matts etc. Local junior is just too hard with the recruiting you do - NZ, QLD etc.

Yeah - I agree with this. If you bring a kid down and he plays “junior reps” then you can probably consider him as coming through the Sharks junior system regardless of where he was born or where he played when he was a kid (e.g. Wilton, Ferris, Ronnie, Bukuya)

If you grabbed him at 18 or 19 and he played 20’s (e.g. Trindall, Ramien) you would probably call it good talent identification but you wouldn’t call them a local junior.

From our current list I’d also consider Vasquez, Jack A. Williams and Billy Mags as Sharks juniors. Not sure on Josh Carr. I think he might have played elsewhere in 18’s.

It’s an NRL production factory down here at the moment.

Yeah - big time - we had a discussion about it in another thread (maybe the Brailey one?). From the 2017 and 2018 u20's teams there is a massive number of players who have gone on to either play NRL or be on a current contract.

Borderline player would be someone like Josh Carr, who played 18’s at Parra but came over at 18 and played 2 years of 20’s with the Sharks. Never played “juniors” but joined the club as an unheralded 18yo.
