Should go to England. Plenty of clubs there would be interested I would think.
Could probably get a juicy 2 year contract then retire after that

Not sure he'd be getting a juicy contract there. Not if they do their homework, anyway.

Whats to stop him from not paying? They deregister him? He doesn't have a contract next year anyway.

Guess they could take it out of his outstanding salary?

Apart from that there'd be a standard clause about this in all players' contracts.

Don't pay, get sued.

Makes sense.

50k is a lot of cheddar though. He wasn't even in the NRL bubble. I get it was stupid... but 50k bananas.

Potentially on top of 10k fine from police that's like... 7.5% of his yearly earnings. Expensive mistake.
Still better than the punishment of jail proposed in here...

They will probably take it out of the grant to the Sharks and make us deal with it.

Don’t forget the $25k he has already been fined/ paid for his previous breach.
That likely pushes him up and over 10% before tax!!!

That all sounds right. Don't forget his contract with us is registered by the NRL so they are not without any legal control over him and would have stuff in place for this kind of thing.

If he suddenly retired could the NRL force him to pay the fine?

(Woops, just saw that it had already been discussed)

he is going to be sacked over the weekend according to a few journos

I don't think we should be sacking him. There's what 2 maybe 3 games left off our season. What's there to be gained aside from saving a few bucks on our cap but we're sacking a guy who's clearly having a ****ed year, his fault or not he's got stuff going on and with no contract next year.

Seems harsh to me but I know he's got no one to blame but himself.

yeah no doubt the money aspect makes complete sense. Just feel it's a bit harsh kicking him when he's down - though he's done this all himself and clearly knew the rules.
